Need some info on the football in this area. What are the best programs ? whats the level of football played ? What are some good spread teams in the area ? Do you need to be a teacher to coach in Alabama ?
My dad might be moving to Huntsville he was offered a job down there (not in coaching/teaching) and he asked me if i would like to come along, so I am doing some research to see if want to make the move. I am not a teacher yet I am currently still in school taking classes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS.

Good football area in a great football state. I'm not sure what the prospects are on finding a job without being a teacher. I would suspect that most of the big programs have volunteers.
The state of city football isn't great. They are some very athletic teams. Johnson has made a couple of runs late. There are big (by Alabama standards) schools on the outskirts though that have good programs. Bob Jones. Sparkman. Hazel Green.
I'm not sure where y'all are planning on living, but if you want to drive Decatur, Austin, East Limestone are good teams.
Any questions the PM me.

The best football in the state isn't being played in or around huntsville, but there are some good programs. Living in Birmingham I really don't follow football up there much. I did a little googling, and found the school names in the area. The H'ville area is Region 7 & 8. These are the Region 7 & 8 schools for class 5A and 6A, the two largest classifications in AL You'd have to get out of the H'ville area about 30 minutes to find smaller schools I'd think, unless you went private. Below is a list of the teams in the region including H'ville. The fact they made the playoffs really doesn't indicate the overall health of the program, but I tried to list it, but could have missed some. None came close to winning. There are a couple of those programs that have at one time had highly respected programs, and they may still be, but largely are overshadowed by the football being played in and around South Jefferson/North Shelby County (Hoover HS of MTV's 2 a days fame for instance), 20-30 minutes south of Birmingham, and then the Mobile area, and a couple of teams around Montgomery, such as Pratville that won the 6A title, and was ranked #2 nationally. The hotbed of D-1 talent is in the Mobile area. Alabama HS football is as good as any played in the nation, so even programs not in the top tier are playing good football. Oh, and to work as a coach in AL, you're going to need your teaching certificate. You can try and volunteer, but I doubt you'll have much luck there. For liability reason, if you're not employed by the school, they usually wont let you on the field, or near the kids in any "official" capcity. Colleges in the area include Athens State, and Univ. of North Alabama. UNA is a perennial Div II Football Powerhouse.
5A Region 7
Arab Buckhorn Butler Fort Payne (2007 Playoff team, over an hour away Huntsville (2007 Playoff team) Johnson, J.O. (2007 playoff team) Lee (Huntsville) Scottsboro
5A Region 8
Athens (30 minutes N.) Brewer Cullman (30 Minutes S., 2007 Playoff team) Curry Hartselle (20 Min. S., and good program over the years from what I recall, 2007 Playoff team) Muscle Shoals (Hour or more from H'ville) Russellville (Good program if I recall, about an hour's drive from H'ville, 2007 Playoff team) Walker (More than an hour from H'ville)
Class 6A Region 6
Austin Bob Jones (2007 Playoff team) Decatur (2007 Playoff team in 5A, but reclassified to 6A now) Florence Grissom (Was a one time good program, not sure now) Hazel Green Sparkman
Good Luck!
