we just got a kid in to school yesterday, moved here from Tonga. Great body, athletic fast, all muscle, a really thick kid. Only problem is he speaks no english at all. He would be a perfect MLB but we have decided he will play DT for us because that will require the least knowledge and communication. Pretty much line up in your gap and go forward. We have a couple other tongan kids who help some, but they arent fluent, they just know some words. I had a former player come today to translate for us and it worked out ok, but he wont be available always.
I plan on trying to pick up a few words here and there to be able to talk with him
My question to everyone is has anybody else ever had a situation like this? What did you do to help communicate with him?
this kid could be a freaking stud if i can coach him up, so much raw talent

The only foreign exchange student I've coached was from Germany, and he was fluent in English. The only thing I had to coach him up on was slang. I think drawing stuff up will be invaluable with this kid. Maybe take a white board with you to practice, draw up the technique you're teaching(beating the reach block, pass rush lane integrity), then demonstrate it, and then let him do it.
