I have said in earlier threads the kids havent won a game in years. We actually stepped up this last week and looked like an average football team against the reining state champs. We lost 51-7, but we did not play bad... If that makes since.
Anyway, we can very well win this week, however, in past weeks our kids have just quit after the other team scores. It could be 6-0 if they score our kids roll over. What do you guys think could help?

None in place tried to implement them was told the headman would take care of it. But he doesn't. This is the week to do it. You are beating the state champs at 0-3 and haven't won in a few years. The guys who miss, sit this game. Most state champion programs understand the game and the last thing they want is to get a starter hurt against you guys. After 28-0 (or worse) first quarter, you might not see the best players. Get a running clock and get the game over. Reward the guys who are at practice. Something has to change. I whole heartedly agree. Talking to some of our committed players today. I found out this is a trick the linemen pull. They "hurt" something and they need to stay of of it Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. But Thursday they're good and Friday. But only if they rest, and apparently it's been happening for a while.

Half our team isn't at practice. Guys what do I do. This is ridiculous. Like we have 10 -15 kids.
What are your consequences for unexcused absences?
How many of the absentees have missed before?

We show glimmers of progress at times, and the kids honestly have all the talent in the world. But it's like they don't feel like it's worth their time to put in the effort on Monday through Thursday, and in all honesty they don't on fridays. I've never seen anything like this.

Play the state champs this week. Part of a team who hasn't won a game in a few years. Got the OC job back in April. Worked the Summer with the kids. New scheme. We are 0-3 in large part to do with the inexperience of the players. False starts and late hits kill our drives. Lack of effort all around, and we don't have the numbers to replace the kids. I'm at a total loss for words. Watching film from our check with me offense. Only made about two bad calls the whole game. The rest of it was honestly just laziness. Would like to pull out a few wins this season. How do you motivate kids when they've been allowed to lose every game, and with no real structure prior to this year. It's like they don't know how to play hard.

How do you develop a relationship through a Hudl trade request? I'm confused. Guy that you don't know...wants film...develop a relationship with a phone call and talk about it. Call me old school, but just seeing you send a trade request doesn't make me your buddy. I know what you mean, but I'm more saying that you don't want to be that d*ck who wouldn't send film when you call for an interview. Lol

Our DC, who has been the DC for the past 4 years, literally said, "Give me the 11 worst kids on the team, I'll stop your 11 best on offense all day, every day." Which would be great if it were true but it's not. We literally have to score north of 42 every single game or we're going to lose. Most of the teams we play sling the ball and our defensive backs are just terrible. How do I handle it? I don't, I ignore it because he's the HC's father in law and I just do my job. I can relate to this as well. The obsession that some coaches have that they think they can just out coach everyone. And maybe they can, but not with a bunch of kids who don't want to be out there. Lol

Please Admin...don't ban me. This is about football. What is your take on giving out film? I'm getting blasted in Hudl for everyone else's film. Sometimes they want our game film...and we don't play them. Of course they offer their trade film that has an opponent we play. Those carrots are dangled. I have a standing rule as film guy. "Did you contact our HC with a phone call?" If no...you get double middle fingers. I'm not everyone's film guy. I disagree, Ill send film to anyone just so I can A. Develop relationships with coaches in the area or out. B. Expect film back down the road. Some people may ask why you care to develop relationships with other coaches? I feel I personally do my job the best when I know if I am fired over something I truly believe in. EX. Not starting a kid because they missed practice. That I can continue to earn a salary and coach what I love by 3:00 in the afternoon.

He may not be on your staff right now but everybody knows "that" coach. Chances are if you don't know him, you are him. The defense/offense has played poorly to start the year so this coach knows all the fixes and solutions to get the offense/defense performing to the expectation. The solutions are rarely tech based and almost always has to do with scheme or Player X should move to Position X. When you watch film you notice none of the tech that was supposed to be taught is being used. My question is how do most of you go about handling that coach? Lol we had a former defensive assistant come out to help at our HCs request. According to him the defense can stop everything we do, and what he does not understand is that any defense can stop anyone if they know what they are doing. Its just funny when hes over scout team D, and listens to the playcall and tries to get the kids to stop our play rather than give us a look. I really think alot of these guys are out there to make it a competition, but like you guys said, I asked him casually what he likes on offense and he said "JET SWEEP!!" .... LOL
