You’re correct that the US government could in fact do more than any institution there is if they chose to do so. However, they don’t choose too. So by the standards they do require the academies don’t get the caliber of athlete the major P5 schools get. Therefore the coaches have to compete with the players they are able to get and they do that better than most IMO. I understand the realities. Then why argue a moot point?

Its the federal government. They spend money on bridges to nowhere. Its not a feckless body with no real power, like the ncaa. The notion that the federal government cannot get around this standard, that standard, or this or that is, yet again, silly. They do not need to compromise on anything, just make it up and voila, 3 state institutions that are far better, at athletics than they currently are, better uses of there resources, getting far more out of their players. The HS equivalent would be IMG. You’re correct that the US government could in fact do more than any institution there is if they chose to do so. However, they don’t choose too. Look at it as a good thing. Everyone gets to be involved with your success and it can only help the program IMO. I see your point but I doubt the kids will care one way or the other.

So, just how does their access to tax dollars override the total lack of basic talent and athleticism? A better weight room? A more comprehensive nutrition program? Genetic engineering?
Not a lot of folks know that Jason Bourne was a hell of a safety for the Black Knights before Operation Treadstone. They should send their team through the universal soldier program

Army, really any of the service academies. And I don't mean "least" as an insult. Not getting a bunch of 3,4,5 stars. Size restrictions. Grade requirements. The list goes on. Those kids are special, and the fact they are successful is a huge compliment to the coaches and kids. I'd have to agree... Their success I think is in large part due to the types of kids they get. I don't know the answer to this but what are some examples of their coaches going on to coach at other places? Paul Johnson is the only one I know of that has. Brian Bohannon at Kennesaw State worked for Paul Johnson and has tremendous success there

Our gate does also but the concessions made about 10,000 on home playoff games at my last school Oh yeah I didn't think of that. I wasn't HC so that was one of those beautiful details that I never had to consider. That’s where the school makes all their money anyway. Gate usually pays the bills for the refs, lights etc. I’m at a much smaller school now and even this year with all the covid and limited seating we cleared 1500-3000 per game

We never got paid a penny more for playoff games. And all playoff gate goes to our state athletic association so maybe the school didn't do much better based on that success either, I don't really know. Our gate does also but the concessions made about 10,000 on home playoff games at my last school

Coda:new HC announced today. External hire. Introduces himself to staff and players. Presentation is about 90% my work hastily edited together. Nice to know that at least somebody is profiting from my work... How is everyone getting your $hit? If you have it so easily accessible to everyone then why be surprised that they take it from you?

I should not have omit the important part: he's stealing this stuff and using it as part of his interviewing for our HC position. I honestly wouldn't give a crap if he had asked and said "I'd like to use this." Fine, go ahead. But he's trying to make it look like he's responsible for a ton of work he didn't do. Rubs me wrong. I think bringing it to his attention may be in order. This. And take everything off the shared drive

I just sent an anonymous survey to my returners with 3 questions. 1) What is one thing that I currently do that you's like me to continue to do? 2) What is one thing that I don't currently do enough that you think I should do more often? 3) What can I do to make you more successful?
Asking fewer questions is easier for people to answer and doesn't feel like you are grilling them. Giving them anonymity allows them to be more truthful than if you were doing it face to face.
I'm not looking to have a kid beat around the bush and be afraid of giving me the hard truths. I don't want sympathy I want results

I would agree with this and it would be interesting to find out the numbers associated with wins. For example the win % of a team who's average squat is 300 compared to 250 and 350. Do higher bench press #'s correlate to better tackling? Or is it squat, or cleans? I feel like in our world we have just excepted the fact that we should lift weights and get stronger but what lifts give us the most ROI?Could we settle the cleans or no cleans debate? Unfortunately, I think there are too many other variables to isolate, specifically opponents relative ability. But I’m not talking about that. Of course you would be able to argue other variables but I’m talking specifically of teams winning percentage based solely on average weights lifted.

I think the answer would be heavy, ground based compound lifts. I don’t think it would be possible or productive to try and drill down more than that, and I don’t think data would show significant differences between a team that front squats vs back squats vs cleans vs push press vs bench press etc. I do think data may show a gap between teams whose varsity has been lifting year round since 6th/7th grade vs 9th grade or later. I think programs whose athletes are part of a school wide integrated program (so they lift heavy using ground based compound movements year round if they are a multi sport athlete) will have more wins than programs who have a weight room open and whoever comes in comes in. Agreed. I do feel that given a large enough sample size you could find nuggets of info that would pay dividends

Im wanting to look over any stats pertaining to win percentage im just trying to see which elements of the game have significant effect on the outcome, but im not sure entirely where to find these stats. I did a basic google search and found a couple things, but if you know where i can find others please let me know At the HS level I would bet sizable amounts of money that the analytics most associated with winning percentage are squat, bench, clean, and deadlift weights. I would agree with this and it would be interesting to find out the numbers associated with wins. For example the win % of a team who's average squat is 300 compared to 250 and 350. How much pass game would anyone recommend? Obviously PAP. Other than that, maybe some sprint-out and i'd like to to Tony Demeo's 3 step boot. Looks like it fits in with the Rocket Bootleg/Waggle. We practice 4 pap’s. One off of mid triple action, one off toss action and 2 off of veer action

CS, can you elaborate on some of the tags that you mentioned, as well as explaining a bit more of a 3-2 exchange? I know that's when #3 and #2 exchange responsibilities, but how do you deal with that? Is it just changing up the blocking scheme? For example releasing your tackle outside a 5 on mid triple vs a 4-3 defense. Its the only way you can have numbers on the perimeter. You need to be able to handle a 3-2-exchange by rule but you can tag the perimeter to handle it as well as using flex formation to stop it. You can teach blocking the perimeter 2 ways 1) count system 2) block who shows and pitch off who shows. The latter is easier to pick up stunts but plenty of people have had success doing it the 1st way

I would install mid triple and get good at it and start reping IV later this season when you have gotten established in the other plays. IV is a whole other animal as far as techniques compared to the other plays. It's the only ball line play in the offense. The other plays are heel line plays so you are reping the crap out of your QB on that. I suggested those plays because you will get a ton of reps of the same techniques and will get proficient in the offense quicker than if you install what you had originally stated We practice against even and odd everyday. There are specific tags that are the only way you can get some plays going vs certain fronts 10-min everyone indo 10-min option drill, line continues indo work all the fits(regular, 3-2-exchange, 1-2-exchange) 15-min pod or gpod (2 groups, 48 plays) 15-min half line (2 groups 48 plays) 3 rounds 1st round IV vs 2 even 2 odd, 2nd round Mid Triple vs 2 even 2 odd, 3rd round is usually PAP but I will work zone option here as well Now that we have dropped IV for the season we will replace that round with zone option and pick back up on IV in the spring Good points here Coach. I always have a hard time letting IV slide, since that's what I was raised on, but you're definitely correct on the coaching points being different relative to other stuff. It's just a matter of training your players that have no clue about anything you're doing and being some what successful year 1. I had no one that had ever taken a snap under center and an oline that were in 2 point stances. He will probably have the same issues. Reps, Reps, Reps

cs a couple questions: 1) do you suggest then that I go with mid-triple instead of IV for this season and install it next season? 2) what does your practice look like? I’m thinking of one day running the O vs an even look (4-3/4-4) and odd front the next (5-2/3-3-5). Is this a good idea? I would install mid triple and get good at it and start reping IV later this season when you have gotten established in the other plays. Big 6 1) IV, 2) Zone dive, 3) Mid double, 4) Mid triple, 5) Toss, 6) Belly then you have 2-3 mixers of your choosing. We run zone option, qb zone option keep, and counter trey.
1 and 2 are blocked similar, 3 and 4 are blocked similar, zone option and zone option keep have the exact blocking scheme as zone dive for the line, then belly, counter, and toss are all different
I just installed the flex at a school that has been in the spread for 18 years in about the same time frame as you have. I have over a decade in the offense and can tell you that you will spend most of your first year getting them used to new techniques.
You will suck a$$ at IV the first year and lose if you feel like you have to run it to be considered an option team. Even the service academies are getting away from running so much IV. Mid triple is a superior play to IV and should be in your arsenal.
The great thing about it is every time you get a rep at mid double you are getting reps for mid triple and vice versa. For the zone schemes your OLine is getting reps on the same blocking scheme every time you run one of those plays and they get really good at it. Plus it's almost the same blocking scheme as IV so you can go into year 2 with a solid base to get good at IV.
I speak with an option coach considered one of if not the best guy to go to for this offense weekly and he said first year get good at mid triple, zone dive and toss and you can put up a lot of points.
Practice is more important than anything also. You need to know how to do it efficiently and get the kids the looks they will see every day. Know your rule, technique your rule

Coaches, the school that i am at is moving to the flexbone (spread last year). As we have not started practicing yet (conditioning starts Nov 8, can start using a football Dec 8, season starts January 8) my question is: Am i being too ambitious with thinking of trying to install triple option, midline double, rocket toss, and zone dive as the base for this year? I know that the triple takes a lot of reps, but we are going to be running it for the foreseeable future. If it is too ambitious, i was thinking of basing with midline, zone dive, zone option (fake dive and run double option), rocket toss and trap. What are your opinions? If you want to run mid double I would drop IV and run mid triple instead. If we are talking just running 4 plays because they are blocked the same by everyone but the play side tackle and slot. We are dropping IV for the year because I just haven't called it enough to waste practice time on it. So we now carry 8 run plays and 3 are blocked the exact same.

If this is the future of your team, I say jump in! Double options are for teams that dabble in option football. T/O is for teams who commit to it. This is incorrect

How about a gift certificate for Beef O'Brady's? Guys if I'm going to treat you to fine dining and drinks such as Beef O'Brady's and Fireball, you're going to have to do far far more than operate my chains. At a smallish private school we had a kid transfer in and when you saw him, you thought, “Wow! Game changer for sure!” The kid’s dad showed up along with him and was an absolute specimen. We all had high hopes. Then we started practice and it was tough. The kid, other than his vertical speed, was terribly unathletic. Could not cut, could not catch, could not tackle and had no innate football knowledge. We really tried but he didn’t have it. Dad was, of course, convinced that he was going to Alabama on a ride. By the time we were a couple games into the season the kid was playing special teams only. The dad was at every practice bending the HC’s ear afterward and sending emails to the entire coaching staff all week long. He brought his posse to the games and loudly criticized the staff. Just before league games started the program did a “senior night” event. It was a dinner where all players and their parents were invited, parents of seniors would stand up in front of everybody and talk about/to their son. It was a fun time to hear parents talk about their kid and how much they’ve grown in the program and what their hopes for their son are. Except this kid’s dad got up and said, “You all know my son, DeAndre, and you know he’s the kind of athlete that school’s wish they could have. He hasn’t gotten a fair shake from these coaches and that reminds of me of my past, I’ve never gotten a fair shake from nobody for nothing…” and then he spent 10 minutes telling us how life had screwed him. The poor kid just covered his face with his hands the whole time. No lie...wish I could have been there to see the speech
