I have noticed over this off-season there has not been as many special teams topics. I know there was an Indiana based special teams clinic I wish I could have attended but I would like to gauge interest and see how many would be interested in attending a Special Teams Zoom Clinic at the end of March with 4-5 speakers? If you are interested in attending or being a speaker, please contact me via PM, or on twitter @coachmcelvany
thanks

I am speaking at Glazier clinic for the first time in my career this upcoming weekend in Detroit (Novi) this weekend? For those who have spoke for Glazier before, is there anything different from what you have spoken before? I have spoken at probaly a dozen coaches clinics before, all local, regional, or state clinics but nothing on the level of a Glazier Clinic so I was just wondering if there was anything I should expect My presentations are ready to go, just looking for any logistics or other info I should be aware of,
for those going to the Detroit Glazier, Stop in and see me, Kyle McElvany talking on the Basics of the Power T Run, Basics of the Power T Play Action Pass, and Fullback Belly
Would love to meet anyone from here that will probaly be in all 6 of my crowds lol

I have been told by SEVERAL (5 different coaches from different D2 schools, 2 NAIA coaches, plus 1 Group of 5 D1 coach) that the transfer portal is going to hurt high school kids recruiting coming out unless you are a 4-5 star recruit. It comes down to investments and they do not see signing more than 10-15 true high school kids a year with various packages.

Kenny Simpson is full of sh!t also. Just to put that out there We have found significant value in all these resources (Randy Jackson, Kenny Simpson, Tim and Brian Kight, etc.). Obviously I don't follow everything they do and say as gospel, but I think you're short changing yourself if you don't review their resources with an open mind. I don't know either of these guys personally, but I did get stuff out of their books that was helpful. As far as what they do in their personal lives or who they piss off, I don care thats their personal lives. I'm not touting them as saviors, just someone who had some useful information in books or podcasts.

When I coached at a rural school, we had about half of the kids who had to et up early to do chores and work on the family land, the other half were your typical suburb kids. The best we could do is offer 2-3 morning times a week, and 2-3 evening times a week. It sucks not having them all together but for those kids that are working on their family farm, they are WORKING so I was never worried about them being in shape. God bless you kylem56 . If I had to come in before school 2-3 times a week and 2-3 times a week in evening in Off-Season just to try to win HS football games, I would have had to find another line of work. Ha thanks but I usually took the morning lifts and then my assistants split up the evening times.

You misunderstood. My point was I wonder what Dilfer would have done had Billick done the same thing. Essentially highlighting that Dilfer was taking advantage of the fact that he is a grown man and former professional athlete with a noticeable advantage in height, weight and probably strength than the student he was pushing all over the field. I see. I thought you meant how society would act. I'm sure this happened to Dilfer. Probably as a pro. Who knows how he would have reacted? There's a zillion factors that come into play. exactly I was asked about this at work today. My first question was, what did the kid exactly say? Did he get combative? Was Dilfer removing him from a situation? With social media we can distort pictures and video clips to whatever our liking is. I happen to know the Principal of their rival school and he has said Dilfer has been nothing but good for that school.

The "unofficial" verdict after the "union fought really hard for us" is that you get it or you're fired. This hasn't been officially handed down, but the local presidents are relaying it. wow. Will there be a mass exodus or do people not care at this point?

Last night was my first night back after my "weekend" on Tues/Wed. According to our former union president they're going to consider it a condition of employment and refusing the shot will lead to termination. Regardless whether you've had COVID or not. Other state agencies are "requiring" the shot or getting tested every week. We already do that. We also haven't had an "individual in custody" ( don't call them an inmate or offender- that will get you disciplined now- soon we'll call them guests) get COVID since March. I feel this entire push is to avoid potential lawsuits. That and our fine governor probably owns stock in Moderna or Pfizer and he needs some more profit to buy another horse farm in Florida. wow can you get a doctor's exemption? Any legal avenues?

One of the hard parts about being a leader is having the hard conversations that someone is going to probaly leave pissed off about. Explain to them why you made the decision, what they can work on, and what their role is going forward. Make sure they know you still value them, care about them as a person, its just their vision of helping the team is going to look differently. They will value your honesty over bullchit anyday.

Its happened, it is what it is. Throw your game jersey over your practice jersey for individuals and team photo and plan on going a little later. Its a pain in the @ss but pick your battles.

Just got word yesterday......Oregon will require masks K-12. I've got a funny feeling this won't help football numbers for the 2nd year in a row. I've already heard of a handful of families that will opt out of sending their kids to be masked in school and have them do online or homeschool instead........again. We've already lost good football kids to, "I can do my school stuff at home, them go work and make money instead of sports." Wouldnt those kids have to wear masks at work? Assuming their kids that work at fast food places and whatnot, I see the kids at fast food places in Ohio and Michigan still wearing masks. As of now, we have been told back to normal. I live in Ohio, work in Michigan and neither state has announced more than that. Like I am sure others feel, but as a private school, we will lose students if we go back to masks or any kind of remote learning. We already had quite a bit of teacher turnover from teachers who had enough of all the BS and went into private sector or teaching virtuallly.

our practice field is literally next door to a budweiser plant. On hot days, it can make a man thirsty Y'all have good sponsorships?? Ha! They actually are nice sponsors of the school itself as a whole. Our practice field land was donated to us by them, before that, we practiced at a park on the rough side of town. Great people!

No comment on the entire situation in regards to the young man or the coaching staff's decisions. I can tell you having coached in Ohio for 10 years at some pretty good places, and in Michigan. This guy will get another coaching job at a place that is desperate to win and "Draw" students. What I think is interesting is that his position as Academic Liaison is likely non-union yet he still will be keeping that job as of now.

in Michigan we are seeing about a dozen or so job changes. Some guys, it is justifiable (i.e. Detroit Cass Tech's Head Coach Thomas Wilcher going to Michigan State) but seeing some just step down cause they have had enough or unknown reasons

I am not looking for a debate here, just curious to see if anyone's school district has released guidelines already for the 2021-2022 school year in regards to masks, testing, etc. Our school is awaiting guidelines from the Archdiocese but the big local public school in town made an announcement they are going to have their students in masks at least for the first semester.

I am in Michigan but live in Ohio and I would say there is more turnover than usual. COVID protocols, especially in the schools, forced alot of coaches to just say "I've had enough" and its getting harder to be a teacher-coach every year from my conversations.

I have spoken with Glenn Caruso their head coach several times. He does a great job with their program and is very intentional in their planning of how they develop players both on and off the field. Low ego guy that has always been helpful to high school coaches in my experience. Are you insinuating if I reach out to staff I could maybe get a response? I wouldn't see why not but understand what time of year you're reaching out to them. In June those guys are on the road doing summer camps. July is their vacation time then August is go time. But I am saying Coach Caruso has always been open to high schol coaches in my experiences
