Most schools I have been at to access the coaches' office where we changed and met you had to walk through the locker room. I liked this design because the boys knew we were in there and we had immediate access as well. One of the coaches, usually me, was always the last one out. There was another school where the culture was the coaches stayed completely away from everything inside. It was weird. I still ended up being the the coach who would end up monitoring stuff by hanging out in the vicinity of the locker room after practice myself I just felt it was really important to have an adult presence.

I love Boombahs but I have had some that were actually uncomfortable. But if I put a different insole in they were OK.
Lately I know I cannot go wrong with Hokas or Nike Pegasus.

Sorry, I have seen it on Twitter but have scrolled past it. Social media is a wasteland right now. If it wasn't for a few really good coaches and practicioners of football I would delete all my accounts so I didn't have be subjected to baby Gronk or whatever.

School #1: Very cramped. Just basically lockers and some chairs.
School #2: It was rough around the edges but since I was the HC i made some changes. Fresh coat of paint (for the locker room too), brought in a couch. Got a desk and a table. Used electrical tape to make boxes on part of the whiteboard. Lockers were in a different room behind it. It was actually a good set up even though it was old and kind of dingy. During the fall we really didn't have to share it.
School #3: Brand new. Huge room. Very spcacious. Couch, chairs, lockers. NO BATHROOM and for all the technology we had to charge there were not enough outlets. Had to share it with a lot of coaches, PE, etc.

I interviewed for a head coach job recently. The interview committee consisted of two adults (AD+one admin) and two players. A current junior and a current sophomore. The whole panel took turns asking questions.
I did not get the job and the reason I was told is the coach who got the job won out was because the players liked that he had coached a 5-star kid at one of his previous schools. The players liked the idea of being coached by "that guy's coach."
Now in my mind I dodged a bullet. There were other red flags that came up in the interview. They kept talking about how talented the upcoming team was and my response was that it takes more than talent. When I said that the players exchanged a look.
I can't see how the two adults could go against what the players wanted because it would get out that players chose one coach and the AD chose another. And if things started going to south they could do south in a hurry. So like I said I dodged a bullet.
I can see the AD meeting with the most mature members of the team and polling them about what they would like to see/what's important to them. But then not giving them a place at the table. To me that is just asinine.
Is this becoming more common place? Adults in admin positions allowing teenage boys to make hiring decisions?

Way too many variables to answer this well......but I'll say 100s or 1000s. I can say that as the season wears on certain things should not have to be repped like crazy. One of the best teams i coached ended up having some very short practices late in the reg season/playoffs because we could get by running most of our plays once each direction vs garbage cans. They were automatic for them. That let us focus on some new install. I think my D coaches would tell basically the same story. That team was very experienced, had a high(er) football IQ, and took care of business in practice.

Hello everybody! I'm new to coaching. Played in high school and decided I'd start back in the system. I was wondering, what are the biggest struggles that you face as a coach? Is there a part of coaching that is "the most annoying" or most frustrating? I'm just interested to see the path I have ahead of me, so I can prepare a bit better. I'm in the dark right now. There has already been a lot of great things said, and I could say a lot of things but I will keep it short. 1. If you are not around the people you want to be around it will be a struggle. 2. If your wife or girlfriend is not on board it will be a struggle. 3. If you have to do things you disagree with or can't get behind (kinda goes along with #1) it could be a struggle.

I do not have a template anymore because it was years ago. We had an incentive that if you raised $100 you got a spirit pack free. I think the spirit pack was a shorts and t-shirt, and if you raised $150 you also got hoodie and sweatpants. We still made a good profit and as a really small school we didn't have a lot of expenses.
It was good thing.

I know a PC/Mac laptop would be better but I cannot afford that right now. So I am looking at chromebook. Primary uses would be google docs/sheets/meet/slides, and Hudl. Want a big screen. Touch screen is not make or break for me. Ports to stick an SD card to upload video would be a bonus. Experience with this? Suggestions? Define “can’t afford right now”. What are the price disparities? Aren't Chromebooks cheaper across the board than a PC or Mac laptop?

That 2021 class 1A game was crazy, especially the first half. I seem to remember a lot of total offense in that game.

Three great things. Sure there is more but I will keep it simple. 1. No weekend meetings. Pros and cons to this but we all got our work done. 2. Makes it about the players. 3. Great relationship with the players.

There is good football played in a lot of states. I once got into a discussion with a D1 college coach about what states in the midwest (since that is where I live) had the best ball. He thought it would be something like this based on his experiences recruiting.
Ohio/Michigan/Illinois/Missouri
Wisconsin/Indiana/Minnesota
Iowa/Nebraska/ND/SD

Once had a guy who had ELITE speed, like almost made the Olympics fast, tell our corners just stay in your backpedal until the receiver passes you, then turn and catch up. He didn't last long as a coach. Somtimes the really talented players do not make good coaches. When they have to teach a player how to do something, and the kid can't do it, they struggle because it came so naturally for them. This is not just head coaches but assistants too. It's like the math teacher saying to a student "how do you not get this?" For some kids it does not come easy. It takes a lot of reps to develop the skill.

1. The HC says this is the way we have always done it, and it surrounded by a bunch of yes men who nod in agreement. 2. The the HC doesn't listen to his assistants or let them coach. 3. The HC doens't watch film or enough film to know what is going on in all phases of the game. 4. The HC is unprepared for practice.
Those are the kinds of things that would make me miserable a coach.

Some that i've had either as a player or coach Word Series Parade Dentist appointment Doctor appointment Birthday party for someone else Overslept Girlfriend was sad My Jr year, Dan Quayle visited my hometown on the campaign trail. They had a big rally on the square. We had practice and I think a few fringe kids skipped. I was a two way starter and in retrospect, I wish I'd have gone. It would have been far more memorable than pretty much anything that happened that season. If that was a Cubs WS parade that might be acceptable for me. JK.

I had a player miss a practice because his car wouldn't start. You could see his backdoor from the school. He lived less than a block away.
About 10-12 years ago I had two players skip practice to go play the new Call Of Duty.

I think the answer to this question depends on the state you live in. In MN and most upper midwest states we are not going to be allowed to "do football" with the players in the winter and spring. We have seen a lot of supposed QB gurus pop up lately who charge kids. Whatever, fine. I have yet to see their option drills on social media yet or drilling faking.

QB Development Program: Winter: Play basketball or wrestle. Get in the wt room. Spring: Play basketball or track & field (or join the golf team) Get in the wt room. Summer: Get in the wt room and be at OTAs. Play summer baseball if that's what they do, but be at team stuff too.
My two best QBs were three sport athletes. If either would have been told you can only play one sport they would have chosen baseball. I was fine with that. They loved football too. One starter shunned summer basketball and only did wt room and summer baseball. Didn't even see him at 7on7. But we only threw 35 passes all season so missing 7on7 didn't really hurt him/us.
The latter of the two made the big 7on7 tournament but not the weekly league. However he was at the wt room 3x a week all summer.

I would like to gather thoughts on the practice of No Sweat Wednesdays for practice. My understanding is Wednesday is literally a day where you try not to break much of a sweat. Walk through, run through. No pads. Short and sweet. Lift and watch film.
I have never done this. What does the rest of the week look like?
Can this be done with high school kids? Varsity only? Whole program 9-12?
What other considerations are there?
