I thought some of you may be interested in this since this is VERY RARE these days. Morris Knolls (NJ) Coach BIll Regan, who is coaching the North Team in the New Jersey North-South All Star Game at Rutgers this Thursday, is using the Houston Split Back Veer on offense. Its the same offense that helped Morris Knolls to a 12-0 record and a North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 title: www.sidelinechatter.com/ Plus: “We’re running our Houston veer offense and the South is going to use the Navy spread option,” said Regan, who will run the North offense while St. Peter’s Prep’s Rich Hansen directs the defense for the squad which will have the legendary Frank Verducci of Barringer fame as its honorary head coach. “Both offenses try and force you to play assignment football and if you don’t do your job on defense someone is going to run clean on certain plays.” So it looks like its going to be option heaven this Thursday, lol.

Navy is VERY stingy about sharing their playbook. I called them last year and they told me to come to their camp but they didn't send anything out. They did send me a word document on why to run the spread offense, but it won't do you any good from a scouting perspective.

Gee a suprise!!! North Jersey (running the SB Veer) beat South Jersey 31-16 on Thursday at Rutgers Stadium. Check out this little tidbit from the article and comment from Plainfield HS Donald Jones(five carries, 88 yards; two receptions, 85 yards) on nj.com: www.nj.com/hssports/football/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1151645562175520.xml&coll=1 Plainfield's Jones sparks North to victory Friday, June 30, 2006 BY MIKE HELFGOT For the Star-Ledger
Even when the other team knew the ball was coming his way, Plainfield High receiver Donald Jones found a way to get the job done.
Surrounded by other all-stars in the old-fashioned veer offense in the North-South All-Star Football Game at Rutgers Stadium in Pisca taway last night, Jones, who played in a very basic offense in high school, was more dangerous than ever.
The 6-1, 190-pound Jones, a First Team All-Union County and Third Team All-State selection in the fall, was the most electrifying player on the field, accounting for 173 yards and a touchdown on just seven touches to lead the North to a 31-16 victory over the South be fore 3,000.
The South leads the series, 13-12-2.
"We ran a lot of reverses and passes early and things started well for me," Jones said. "I wish we ran this offense at Plainfield."
Jones, who had scholarship offers from Wisconsin and Temple but will attend Lackawanna Junior College in Pennsylvania to improve his academics, set up two of the North's first three scores before breaking off a 16-yard touchdown run that gave the North a 23-7 lead.
He got outside on a 23-yard run that put the North deep in South territory and that ultimately led to a North safety after its offense failed to score, cutting the South's lead to 7-2. After the North went ahead, 10-7, Jones (five carries, 88 yards; two receptions, 85 yards) caught a pass from Morris Knolls quarterback Tommy Hennessy up the middle, made a quick spin move without breaking stride and ran an additional 30 yards to set up Montclair running back Julian Cruz's 3-yard TD run on the next play.
Then, after an interception by Cranford's Chris Brown of the North, Jones, the North's offensive MVP, took a counter-option pitch 16 yards to the end zone to give the North a 16-point halftime lead.
