I am into the option especially out of the bone and have been toying around with a few ideas, but I am kinda stuck as to what to do. Building a playbook from scratch is very time consuming, creating blocking rules, checks and etc.,but taking someones else material and trying to adapt it can also be time consuming. Then theres the fact that I like series football and most wishbone playbooks are incomplete and just show random plays up against whatever formation the author felt like using. Im not a head coach so I dont have to worry about using it his season but Im putting my Head Coaching packlet together and obviously the playbook is apart of that. I know ultimately the decision is mine but maybe hearing someones experience in the matter will shed some light on me.

Do a bit of both. If you have some good playbooks in digital format you could take parts of it. In the end most of it will be what you make.

synthesize the information you get from other sources into your own playbook and terminology. You will be able to better what you have and know it cover to cover when you're done.

yes, it is time consuming, but then you have it and you can change it or tweak it each year as you adjust. It is worth your time.

I am basically in the same boat as you. I graduated from College last year, and have put together my own Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams playbooks. I also have done a lot of football related materials so that I have MY OWN SCHEME, for when I become a HC.
It helps you out a lot when you develop your own blocking schemes, rather than try to figure out WHY another coach has set his blocking scheme up a certain way. You can always take other people's schemes, and incorporate them in your own verbage, and scheme...but only AFTER you have your own "base scheme"
