a basic end around is usually called a double reverse

As opposed to "good tv analysts" Formation names and specific plays are usually the best entertainment. Lining up in a 3 RBs in the backfield is always the wishbone or WingT no matter how they are lined up. My favorite is a jet sweep being called a reverse. Any play where Farve does a pump fake and then hands the ball off was of course a "Statue of Liberty"

1) "Cut back" on Inside zone, when the runner never cuts back (across the center) but simply remains on track 2) ANY misdirection being referred to as "Wing-T" 3) 'Well, thats just a "Timing route" anytime there is a quarterback releasing the ball on his plant 4) Thats that "ZONE BLITZ" anytime a secondary player is coming into the box I guess they have to fill that dead space with SOMETHING, but the more you talk the dumber you sound.

I like how English Soccer does it on some games. They have a fan from one team, and a fan from the other, and they spend the whole game insulting each other and the teams and players. It's the only time I can stand to watch soccer.

I like when they call the reverse a lot of teams run to their Z receiver "The OLD END-AROUND!!"
I also like when they call the HB Pass "The OLD FLEA-FLICKER!!"
(Both comments said with an abundance of awe and over-enthusiasm)

I hate it when they start talking about "breakdowns in coverage" and assigning blame to parties when they have NO IDEA who actually made the mistake. Same with pass pro, run fits, or any other "mental error"
My individually favorite incident involves technique however, when the color guy (former lineman) starts ripping into a corners technique saying he wasn't "staying square in his backpedal". The corner had not used the pedal technique the ENTIRE game....
Bottom line though, those guys are paid to talk...so they have to say SOMETHING...and although we have a nice membership here on this board...obviously we are in the VAST minority. Most NFL fans would change the channel if they were bombarded with the nuances of double vs triple, jet/rocket, spread/run&shoot, wing-t, t, single wing, wishbone, I bone, flexbone, inverted or A bone, (the packer formation) etc.

(Both comments said with an abundance of awe and over-enthusiasm) That would be Brent Mustberger. I have heard speed option refered to as triple option, I have heard any team that runs 4-5 WR refered to as a Run and Shoot team.

any time a QB throws a bad pass......."Oh, he threw off his back foot there..........."
Why oh, why.......are there so many former DLinemen in the color-commentary business?

These sound like they could have been made by Musberger or whatever his name is on ABC. Really have a hard time watching games he broadcasts and this goes back along time ago. Lord, I apologize I shouldn't have said.

Any trick play is now called a "Boise State play." I want to strangle some of these people.

Not the announcers so much as the camera crews and the choice for replay. 1. I really do not want to see the ball in the air when it is being thrown. 2. I know the majority of football fans in their $120 team jerseys, don't care to see the replay on a run play, but I for one like to see how they block it. Not as a big a deal now that I have a DVR, but annoying nontheless.

YES! OOoooo, where they have to use the thing that puts a number above each players' head. Then by the time they are done playing with their toy, they have missed the next play.

My favorite is a jet sweep being called a reverse. I hear this one a lot too. How many of you guys are ahead of the announcers? I find the analysts repeating my comments as if they're listening in on me! Big Ten Network announcers are especially horrendous. The game itself is only backdrop to interviews with former players, talking about the team's upcoming basketball seasons, etc.

I agree with you prez happens to me all the time. It seems like if you watch the smaller conf games there is less of the BS and the camera angle are better. I was watching parts of Arkansas state vs North Texas and Sam Houston State vs Texas State last night and there where some great camera angles and less BS and the Sam Houston State game was a good one.

any time a QB throws a bad pass....... "Oh, he threw off his back foot there..........."Why oh, why.......are there so many former DLinemen in the color-commentary business? For the same reason that there are so many ex-linemen coaching. Ex-QBs go into politics or get appointed to the executive boards of big corporations...they don't need to coach or talk about football to stay in the limelight.

Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Spielman are the best in my book, along with Bill Curry and Bob Davie are good as well.

So who besides me has verbally abused the announcers because of their stupid commentary? I know that I've called them Dumb A$$es more than one occasion out loud while watching games. My friends look at me like, big deal, but to me, it is a big deal, you are paid to announce football, use the terminology correctly.
