What is the catch to getting the free proscout software?

To get the free upgrades you have to be willing to download games to a "video library". Really to be honest I do not think there ismuch of a catch.

They require someone from your staff forfeit their soul!
Nothing - it's great / powerful software for football (because it's free). I wouldn't pay $300 for it, but then again, there's not much I would pay $300 for.

You gotta have a SUPER computer to run it. And I couldnt figure out how to work it even after I got a brand new computer and tons of memory. Oh well back to working the two vcrs.

I'm not sure about that tvt50....as long as you have Windows 2000, you should be good.
If you can firewire your video camera into your computer you have an ideal setup. I started working with this after the season and have been cutting up using burned DVDs. Compared to other DV software, Pro Scout Video uses very little memory / space.

I don't feel that there is any catch. You do need a good computer, but I think that is the case for all video editing programs. Like any program, the more you use it, the better you are at using it. It might not be the best, but it truely is free! GREAT deal for a good program.

It does seem like you need a super computer to run it. I asked our school's tech guy if he had a computer that had the hardware requirements, he told me, there wasn't a computer on campus, that could run the program.
I have Windows 98 at home, and I would have to upgrade my computer b/c it's not up to all the spec. requirements the software needs for it to run properly.
Any suggestions?

no offense, but join the 21st century.....or get Linux. You can get Linux Fedora FREE with a 3G download - I believe PSV will work with that...but if you're running Win98, you still are going to be confronted with a hardware issue. You can't expect to use Digital Video with 486. Hey, you can't put NO2 in a Chevette.....you can get a quality Win2000 computer to run this for well under $800. We're talking video indexing and cutups, tendency reports, and playbook creation software. If you WANT to take a leap into technology, PSV is the right "cost" without having someone to hold your hand.

Brophy,
I meant to say I have windows 2000. I can use the playbook software, but as far as cutting up stuff... that's another story... If I download this Linux fedora would this give me the memory I need to cut up and burn film footage.

If I download this Linux fedora would this give me the memory I need to cut up and burn film footage. Linux Fedora is a totally separate OS. You could run Microsoft applications, but it wouldn't be their OS. It is just a smaller OS that frees up a lot of space and makes the system run a heck of a lot smoother / faster (for older computers). With the older computers getting more and more outdated coupled with the new Windows being launched at the end of the year....a 'stable' OS / platform can help salvage older computers. fedora.redhat.com/

So they want you to upload some film to get the updates... isn't there something to do with them wanting some player surveys too?
Are the scouting reports decent?

They want you to upload film so they can make money off of the videos that you upload... Parents, fans etc could buy and download game film You can put a password on it so only certain people could purchase the video
Also, If somehow you get your whole district to use the same program you could trade through proscout's server and never have to drive long distances to trade game tape

What about the Canopus??? Do you really need that? I was hoping to go right from our digital camera to the computer. Also, can you save games onto CD? Or DVD? It says every 2 hours takes 10 GB. So I could really only hold like 4 games on my computer!?!? How do you compensate?

You don't need the canopus if you have digital camera. Call Mike Dinallo. The Proscout staff is very user friendly. Wy school purchased all ther Proscout requirements for a laptop. It was in the $2,500 range. The laptop is a logical choice because of its mobility. We scout our opponents right on to the laptop using excel. Later we load the games into the laptop for basic situational cut-ups. That is the extent of what we use it for.

With the newest updates you will be able to burn right to DVD, you will not have to record out through your video card.
Like many scouting programs, there is probably more info availiable in the scouting reports than you will ever use.

Get an external USB HD and store your films there. This will free up the processing speed of your CPU. Video, period, can be a hog. I have Pinnacle Studio 9 (had 10 but it is a total pig) and the 'higher-end' editing software really eats up on memory and space. I have been using the super-streamlined NeroVision for my editing lately, but PSV is less of a burden on the computer.
