Long story short, my team has been having very bad practices all week. Saturday morning I was really down on the kids and acting in a way I normally do not act. I actually feel really bad about how I mad a "clown" out of myself and apologized to the head coach because of it.
I guess my questions are; 1. How, as a coach, do you stay positive when the team is looking bad?
2. Any suggestions on trying to get a teams "energy" reversed?

What do you mean by a bad practice? What level?

Are you really doing them any favors by staying positive? I don't know the level you are coaching at but sometimes you just have to take the kid gloves off and tell it like it is.

1) start over
2) change up the format
3) pick up the tempo
4) Incorporate more competitive environment (play for stakes, more one-on-one matchups)
5) Use more video instruction

I coach 7th and 8th grade.
By "bad practices" I mean kids not putting fourth a good effort, goofing around, not taking practice serious.
I actually tried to do some stuff the kids like doing, but even then, they still did not put in any effort.
