Well, being a feeder team town's worst nightmare, rogue coach, because you asked, and because the next post is going to make mine look like I coach peewee (which I do):
I have given it some thought lately as to how to make my slams and dives, more like my teams logo, lets say it is a tiger which is close enough.
1. G3,6: Fang Dive 2. T4,7: Fang Strike 3. 9,8: Fang Slash 4. 1,2: Tail Sweep, Claw Sweep
Fortunately, the term waggle fits right in.
I have also renamed the fullback the Fang and the Wing, the Claw. Slot = Tail (he does motion from slot back to that spot from time to time.) Has anyone else ever renamed a position, also? Sorry, I can feel some of you cringing, as I write this.
K.I.S.S. the kids remember them better that way. Slam works, but it's just so 50's.
Anyways, at least they're original, i'm sure the next post will prove to be more informative.

Loch: I feel a rant coming on... Blast / Power / Power O / "Off Tackle" When I played high school ball, we called the Lead/Iso "Blast", and the FB off-tackle "Slant"... Inside Belly, yes -- but the Outside Belly/Wing-T 80 series play is not a Dive by any stretch of the imagination... ...or as so many of our colleagues charmingly refer to it, "Flair Route"...and don't even get me started on "Shovel/Shuffle/Shuttle Pass" To me, a Dig has a definite cut to the Post built in before the receiver turns parallel to the LOS... ...and in closing, can I get a big AMEN on the coaches who use the terms "upfield" and "downfield" interchangeably, sometimes in the same sentence? ;D ;D

Loch: I feel a rant coming on... Inside Belly, yes -- but the Outside Belly/Wing-T 80 series play is not a Dive by any stretch of the imagination... Yes, true. But I've heard (the opposite) "I" teams refer to the FB running up the guard's tail as a "Belly". Not saying all those terms are interchangable, just saying that they have been used by coaches I know or have listened to at some point to refer to the same things by other names.

How about when reporters/ uninformed coaches call different things the same name such as calling Doublewing Teans "Wing T ". That bugs me.

The Difference between the Bootleg/Waggle is that on a Bootleg, 1 Guard pulls, on the Waggle, both Guards pull. The QB rolls out most likely after a play fake. This is the way we do it, although it is probably different for everyone. The best thing about being a coach is if you say the sky is green, well then, sky will be green...
