Let me explain just what exactly this is:
We refuse to become a "pay" site. However, there are costs associated with some of the things we do here with the site. In the past, we have asked for donations from our members to help offset this. I have felt somewhat uncomfortable just asking for money out of the kindness of people's hearts and really giving them nothing in return.
So, the subscription 'services' are really a gift for donating money to our site. It is still a donation by the member, only we are attempting to, at the very least, give you something for your consideration.
I really enjoy the start page - how most of the information I typically surf the web for during the day is already in one place for me. So, that has made things easier for me. Obviously, we all have email, but google mail servers are excellent and provide a large amount of storage space and ease at which your messages can be searched. The document page is a feature I am still getting used to using. It is a basic word document program and it allows you to save (securely) online for future editing from anywhere. You may upload in word documents or excel files you already have, as well. Also, you can save the files as pdf files or html files. These files can be shared with other users (who have subscriber services). Personally, as I use this feature more and more, I will link all the articles, forms, etc. and provide those to others to download.
With all that being said, is being a subscriber really "worth it?" Again, that is something only you can answer. A subscriber is an contributor, and I appreciate that very much. So, I am trying to provide some service - no matter how minimal it is - to contributors as a way of saying "thank you.".
