I want to shift and motion a lot this year, and I am looking for a good, efficient system that is easy for the kids to understand and easy for the coaches logistically. Wristbands? Whiteboards? Signals? Anybody have or seen any good ones? Thanks in advance.

Are you looking at doing this from no huddle?

We put the formation, shift, motion and play on a wristband, and run from no huddle.

You may partner formations with motions and shifts...and use rules.
example. 3x1 formation. start in a 2x2 then motion the one back to trips.
3x2 formation start in 3X1 then motion the one back in empty.
Use a different buzz word for shifts and motion.
Past year we always when on TWO when we lined up in EMPTY. Worked great and I plan to expand it to include motions and shifts.

We've been successful shifting and motioning a ton at a fast pace. Email me and I'll send you the playbook section on it. ehsfb2001@hotmail.com

We are a one-back no-huddle offense. We like to use multiple formations, so shifts and motions are huge part of what we do. We add a tag to the formation and have them position specific. For example, trade would be for the Y-TE. So if hears "Trade" he knows that he will trade sides of the ball.We will use different words for the different shifts. We use 4 shifts.
Trade, Wing, Empty, & Bunch
For motion, we just use the position letter and a number (1,2,3,4).
1-short 2- zig-zag 3-across 4- orbit
Example would be "Blade Trade X-1" & then the play

That is what I am always concerned about. I try to limit my verbage as much as possible... What is "Blade" is that a formation?

We were no huddle so none of the formations, shifts, and motions had to be said. We only had to tell the Oline the play and that was a word and number. "Blade" is the name of a formation.
