How do you guys do it?
Last year we used a number board, but this can slow down the tempo if someone misses something and is a pain to keep up with.
This year we just called in play numbers off of a wrist coach. Simple but other teams catch on to what play number 5 is after we run it 4 times.
I do not like signals, we do not tend to get them to all 11 players on the field.
Also we are wanting to change up some of our stuff from mirror routes to be able to tag players to do certain things. Example if we want a H shallow with a comeback by X and a curl by Z we want an easy way to do that with out it being called something else.
Thanks in advance for your time and help.

The trick with wrist coaches is to have three or four different numbers for each play.
Your card has a Play, and then the numbers that will call it. The players have numbers in order and then what play it is. That way you aren't hunting for a play looking through all the numbers, you just find your play, pick one of the numbers at random and call it in.

use the best way you have to communicate the play.
Let's say signals that tell the offense what play to run on their wrist band.
*Have another coach for dummy signals *Have the backup QB write a non-sense 3-digit number on the board every play
That should keep it simple, and confuse those defensive guys who try to steal signals.

The easiest we found with the wristbands was to just use dummy words and numbers in the call. If play 16 on the wristband is Zone Read Right. We call it in by adding meaningless words and a third digit. 16, 716, Green 216, 416 Hurricane, Texas 816 - all Zone Read Right.

we dont go no huddle, but we do yell out numbers on the wristband as a way of signaling the play into the QB in the huddle. I out a state and then a number. the state means absolutely nothing. i jus change it as a dummy call. the number is the live call. I cant have a dummy number too because our kids are just too dumb. no one has caught on all year

I would laminate them and have a different one for each half, that way when you use Red 216 again and the defense thinks they know what it is you can surprise them.
Or are defenses not even that smart?

we use youth-size triple window bands. all players have one. a play is calleds using a 3-digit number and then a word. 1st # = page #...its either 1,2 or 3 2nd+3rd # = play number on that page. word = dummy call i can fit about 22 plays on each page. so heres what i might call "206 honda" the players tunr their triple wrist coacxh to page 2, and look at play 6 if i call "114 neptune" they look on the fist page, play 14. on each page, 2 plays are highlighted in BLUE type.... these plays are on TWO. so we can change up our cadence right off the band. (for our predominantlyt special ed team, TWO ryhmes with BLUE..... they get it right all the time.) the word at the end of my call means nothing. i use neptune, pluto, saturn, homda, toyota, yankee, red sox. it sounds like something different but 208 pluto is the same as 208 toyota is the same as 208 yankee, etc. i also have one play on the card as "freeze" so we can use that on short yardage to draw the defense offsides. its a simple system that APPEARS to be complicated. our team learned it within 3 practices.

all we did was take those downloadable wrist cards from the Cutters website, and instead of using numbers, we highlighted and changed each number to LETTERS.
so play "A" might be: Spread R, 31 Trap
Now we can just call out: "Arizona, Arkansas, Alabama, Airplane, Apple...whatever. Anything that starts with "A" is Spread R, 31 Trap

Signal the formation. only the skinnys guys need to see it
Use wristbands for the play. this makes it easier to practice...no scout team player can "steal the play"
have motion/shift/formation rules for certain plays
