I'm a young coach that wants to get a head job someday and needs some help. I was wondering if any one had any ideas or could send me some stuff about half time adjustments on both sides of the ball and tying in a middle school program with the varsity program. My email is bvernon@waynesville.k12.mo.us
Thanks

The answers to those two questions could take up an entire website. Take the next few months and visit the different threads on this board (Offense, Defense, Etc.) and try and get a feel for the topics and the replies. Ask questions about stopping the sweep or the long pass. Ask about run blocking and pass protection. Find out which coaches on this board have the same opinions as you, and find out which ones are direct opposites - then ask them why they run a certain play or scheme. Half time adjustments are very specific and there are many "experienced" coaches who struggle with them. Continue to educate yourself on this board and you'll find some of the answers that you're looking for.

Half-time adjustments, in my opinion, don't have much of a pattern or consistency. We see things so differently each week. I usually just talk to my assistants or the guy in the booth and ask what they are seeing. When I talk to the kids we find out where they are lined up and what the kids are seeing. Usually you will find that the stories are very similar and the adjustments are almost predictable.
Best way to become good at half-time adjustments. Teach your kids, your assistants, maybe yourself - how to self-correct and evaluate. My players at the beginning of a season never want to admit a mistake because they think it shows weakness. When they learn to admit, "I can't block that guy," "we can't trap that guy, he doesn't even move," that is when you can make great adjustments. The kids are the key to a great adjustment, we just have to learn how to fish it out of them.
