all the games have been played...so besides the weights, where else can we get a "win" at now?
Here is a seldom discussed topic - Staff Loyalty & Trust.....is it something you just "have" or are there things you can do to strengthen it or build it?
Who should take care of this development ? Where does the responsibility of staff chemistry lay?
We could all use some "answers"

trust...loyalty...
HC can sit down with each assistant, scribe out letters of recomendation and make phone calls trying to promote his assistants as HCs for the vacancies....anyone ever do that? that would certainly make an assistant feel pretty daggone good wouldnt it?

The only thing I can think of (because of my closed mind) is....
1) Travel to clinics together 2) Watch a game together / shoot the sh-- / Have a drink....a relaxed setting to promote dialogue and open discussion (open to criticism / open to feedback). Free exchange of ideas....where everybody listens and everybody contributes...where everyone can admit their short-comings or demonstrate their competencies.
Sworn "Loyalty" is nice, but I haven't seen any coaching contracts drawn up in blood lately.

hey coach i think its a group effort but the initial steps must be taking by the HC to do the thing
you listed Brophy i truly believe that if a HC wants a loyal staff he must carefully choose his
asst. -- same character and coaching philosophy. I don't mean Yes
men, there is nothing more annoying, but men that will do the right
thing for the team even if it means tough discussions with the HC. I
understand we inherit some, if not our whole staff at times but the
initial attempt must be made by the HC

Loyalty and trust doesn't magically happen at the end of the season. It develops and grows every day at practice and every week at the game.
Does the HC allow his staff to coach or is he a micromanaging dictator? Do the assistants bust their butts and do the work they're supposed to do to support the header? Does the head coach praise the staff in victory and accept responsibility in defeat? Do the assistants strive to make the team better, or are they busy getting their resume and assistant coach packet together for their next interview?
Does the HC cover for the OC/DC when he makes a brutal call that costs the team a win? Do the assistants support their Boss-friend-brother without hesitation when the parents, the AD, the players (?) start to question decisions or philosophy ... or do they respond with "Don't ask me, I'm just an assistant" or "Its not how I would call it, go talk to the head coach."
Loyalty doesn't happen with a contract - yeah it probably helps - but it comes about through hard work and hard play (and usually through a few hard drinks - Brophy ... right on with that!) where everybody feels they are a part of a team. And it's never done! Thanks for raising this topic Brophy - you reminded me I need to take my staff out for wings and beverages before our county all-star game!
