I wanted to get your guys criteria for pride stickers. I am trying to find a nice balance of on/off the field achievements to fill up the players helmets by the end of the year.
Thanks.

We did PRIDE stickers a few years ago. It's like anything else - if it's done correctly then it will be a good thing. My perception looking back was we as coaches were inconsistant in recognizing PRIDE events and that the players did not buy into it. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what it could have been. We've also done "Hammer" stickers for big hits and that always seems to be a big hit.

I hear what your saying. I think if we had a format that all the coaches knows then all players would be rewarded. I would love nothing more to have a sophmore who busts his butt in the classroom and on special teams have just as many stickers as one of our "star" players. I think it will send a special message.

We give stickers out for one thing and one thing only- knock the hell out of someone you get a sticker. Does not matter how as long as it's legal- blocking, tackling, running the ball defeating a block etc. We actually have two- one for general big hits and one for truly spectcular one's. Give a bunch of these out and everything else should fall into place.

Defensively this is what the entire team can get stickers for- Shutout Cause 3 turnovers Hold offense under 100 yards Score with the defense 0 broken or missed tackles 10+ big plays (sacks, tackles for loss, fumble caused, fumble recovered, ints, big hits, etc) No stupid penalties
Individually Used to give one out for most tackles- not going to do this anymore- stupid stat Fumble recovered Fumble caused Int Touchdown, safeties, etc. Sack Tackle for loss Big Hit Big Play
Any other ideas?

GPA of the individual ... over 3.5 if a bench warmer, 3.0 for 2-deep personnel Position GPA (O-line, DBs, etc) ... position GPA over 3.0 = 1 sticker, over 3.3 = 2 stickers, over 3.8 =3 stickers, etc

We give helmet stickers for team goals. If a kid plays only one down in the game he will receive all the stickers for that team [offense, defense, special teams].....example an offensive goal may be to rush for 250 yards. If a sub comes in at the end of the game on offense, they will get that sticker plus all the other TEAM goals the offense met.
I have never thought of off the field stuff......that is a neat idea.

AS coach's, we get together briefly after a game and decide who gets what. I have the final say.
I don't want to use valuable coaching time figuring our to the yard who gets what.
Example, we win 7-0. Offensive line played well, opened some holes for some key first downs, won a battle at the goaline for a TD...against a VERY tough opponent. Each lineman gets two awards.
Flip side - We win 40-0. 400 yards rushing, against a weak opponent. But we had a couple of holding penalties, a false start, and weren't finishing our blocks. No Awards.
I'm a believer in letting it be subjective...

I won't get into how we grade from our "Wildcat" stickers. It's close to what LarryMoe does. We have Skull and Cross bones for big hits. We started the Skulls this year. It was amazing how many more big hits we had this year just because the kids wanted to get the Skulls on their helmet. I loved it. We went to the Quarterfinals this year, and half our kids helmets were littered with stickers. It had to be a huge hit to get the Skulls. It makes them more important!

I'm kind of adopting a spade as our defensive symbol and I'm thinking about getting some spade stickers made to give out for special defensive awards- big hits, huge plays, great leadership, teamwork, etc. Make em a little different and harder to get. We give out skulls and crossbones for our normal stickers.

I have never really liked helmet stickers. Sometimes the kids are more focused on them than on more important things.
I have given out stickers and even helmet stripes for other things - off-season workouts, attendance at camps...(I do like the idea about rewarding GPA)

I've changed some things, but I don't think it matters if Stanny has a copy of it or not. I just hope the fact that we're two and half times bigger than them will allow us to beat them up a little. I hope.
