Just lost our HC of 10 years due to "budget cuts". His teaching position was cut. BTW he is a math teacher! So he resigned. My main problem is organizing for next year. They don't have a replacement lined up for him. I am in my 3rd year as a coach and am doing my best along with the rest of the staff keeping the kids together and excited. Most of us have off campus jobs and that makes it tough. Any thought or advice? I seem to hear about a new kid quiting every week because they think we are going to suck! That really pisses me off! We have a great group of coaches with a ton of coaching experience. My biggest problem for next year is @ QB. The 2-3 kids that would be good there are not playing. We have a solid o-line and a great FB not big but he only has one speed and it's balls out. So we are having trouble deciding on an offense for next year any help would be greatly appreciated. I've rambled enough. Thanks in advance for the help.

Has someone been appointed the new HC? If not, it seems that might need to be the first order of business. Contact the AD or school admin to see what they are going to do . . . put in an application if you are so inclined. Other than that, you might just continue along your previous coach's path with the kids. If your area is anything like our area - you might want to have some of the parents pick-up the phone and call to put some pressure on the admin. They seem to respond to parental pressure. Also, maybe calling a local reporter to get some press - and pressure on the admin . . . .

At this point since you are making cuts in the teaching areas it might be best if it got filled from within the coaching staff. That is if anyone wants the job and is qualified which I'm sure many of you guys (you included) are. I would have each coach "monitor" a group of kids. Call them, etc. Have the kids put peer pressure on eachother to not walk away at least until a new coach is named. As for schemes...what have you run in the past? If you get a new HC from outside the program he may have different ideas. I would go through the summer and work on fundamentals until a new coach is named who can decide on a scheme. But in general coach what you know.

thanks for the responses guys. No new HC as of yet. The admin is trying to hire from outside, but the only teaching spot open is a h.s. english teacher. If no one is found one of the sr assistants is willing to take over on a temp. basis. He is a great man and has been involved with colorado football for 30+ years and all the kids love and respect him. The problem is he would only be a temporary fix. I would love the opportunity, but feel I still need to mature as a coach. I was away from the game for a number of years and seem to have forgotten more than I thought I knew. But I'm absorbing all I can. We ran the bone last year due to injuries etc. In the past we have run mostly I-back and pro spread formations. Our last HC was a great o0ffensive guy, so we always had great packages, unfortunately I think we sometimes had to many. The old story of being able to do alot of things, but not being able to do them great. We are looking at the I-formation with power and offset packages. Keeping the playbook simple and repping the heck out of it. Just still troubled by lack of QB. Looking at my best athletes to plug in. I plan on keeping the kids pumped up all summer since I will be involved in the summer weight/conditioning program. We will run it out of the health club I work at for part of the summer because we are rehabing our current excuse for a weightroom over the summer. Thanks again for all of the help coaches.

Get on campus EVERYDAY. Work with the kids in the weightroom. Talk to them. Organize a team outing (cookout etc). Let them know that its all going to be OK. Give them the rah rah. "We will use this to our anvantage, use it to bring them closer.
