I found this quote this morning and thought I would share it. It kind of sums up some of the players we all will be playing this season. They may not have great "numbers" but they have something you cannot measure.
Albert Einstein once said, “Not everything that is measured counts and not everything that counts can be measured.”

Well it's just that we seek the best football players. "Numbers" are just useful and common proxies for identifying them, but not always the best. Forty time -> speed -> in-game speed. They are definitely connected, but as we know it is not one to one to one.
Some players don't have the "numbers" but are good at the difficult to measure criteria - this may just be a failure of our measuring techniques rather than a fault for measurement itself.

I think I am as big into "numbers" as anyone, but I think the point of the quote as it relates to football and sports in general is every HS team has that player who is "5-foot nothin' and weighs a hundred and nothin" but still somehow gets the job done b/c of his heart.

Here's another one from that great football coach Albert Einstein -
"Concern for man and his fate must always form the chief interest of all technical equations. Never forget this is the midst of you diagrams and equations."
Sounds like another way to say, It's not about the X's and the O's its ....

I think numbers are just that. I do not time kids in the forty, shuttle run, vertical, etc. Those are all done in shorts and a t shirt. The game is played in pads. Football is about more than pure straight forward speed. Some kids may run a "4.4" forty then get caught from behind on Friday night by some "5.1" LB. When we put on the pads the "numbers" rise to the top and make plays. Just my .02

Albert Einstein once said, “Not everything that is measured counts and not everything that counts can be measured.” How about the fact that some teams win every game by a blowout, they win the state championship, and learn absolutely nothing about being a good human being (ala Miami Northwest)? Compare that to a team wins 0, 1, or 2 games the entire season but they learn respect, accountability, and other traits that allow them to succeed as a well-rounded person. Success comes in many ways other than W's & L's.
