Guys..
How many of you have your home field with this? How did the school pay for it? I assume it was a booster thing, but the reason I ask is that I'm at a small school that has a nice big stadium, but the grass field is worn OUT. The community and the board have pretty much aligned in two camps: one for the building of a new stadium (grass) and one to keep things status quo. I think that resurfacing with field turf is the way to go. I would like to put together a proposal that outlines the use of field turf as the new surface and its positives (summer rec can use it, etc) Some of my ideas so far as pay for it are selling advertisement signs that ring the fence of the field, etc. If any of you have put together such a proposal in the past, I'd really appreciate it if you could share your stories/data. Thanks!

Coach - Maybe contact one of the big shoe manufacturers (Nike/Reebok/Under Armour) and ask if you can "sell out" your field for their logo. If your school can handle a Swoosh at the 50, and maybe on each side near the 20, you might be able to get a lot of help. Two park districts fields here, one in Chicago, and one in the suburbs both were sponsored by Nike, and both got new field turf installed for ....... soccer! One of the local high schools is in talks with Nike about helping them pay some of the costs for their new field turf surface that they are planning on installing next season. It is worth a try....

House,
Thanks for responding..
I realize that it would take a while to raise the cash. How did you do it exactly? I would like to prepare a plan to do the same. I dont think our school board will want to help at all, so if there are other ways to do this, I am all ears. I think that with the proper plan, I can make headway. The powers that be here need to see that a refurbished stadium with field turf is the way to go. Maybe a plan that unites all of the HS field sports, plus the local rec leagues...? The biggest thing is that we keep any district funding to a minimum (or ZERO if at all possible)

Beg, borrow, pillage.
Grass roots. Getting down and figuring things out. We wrote grants, proposals, etc. Got the district involved, but only with planning and not funding.
We held live/silent auctions that brought in huge money. We got the local business leaders together to get their input and money. We got the local contractors with big equipment and asked them to donate 10 days and 2 men.
The community rallied and the people were unbelievable. 1.5 millilon dollar facility and $900,000 of it was donated (labor, rock, drainage, etc.). Crazy, but done!!!!!!!!
