Today I spoke to a mothers of preschoolers group about football. They ate it up. Tons of great questions. We covered the basics but they also wanted to know about how the officials use the chains or measure...even how they can bring them all the way across the field without losing the spot etc. Wanted to know why certain players went in motion and even about why players lined up the way they do (Formations) They wanted to know all sorts of things much I which I did not expect. Then I brought will a full uniform and all the equipment and dressed one mom up.
None of these moms have anyone old enough to play football yet so it was not like I had to sell myself or the program, just "Football 101" stuff. I highly suggest if you have the opportunity to promote football like this do it. If we don't soccer will!

coach, do you have any lesson plan guidelines for this?
I've contacted several NFL and semi-pro leagues that do this (indoctrination for 'moms')....but can get no responses....I think it would actually help our PLAYERS......(lol)

Bill Callahan from Nebraska does it for about 1200 women every year. They go on the field and the locker rooms etc They do it as a fundraiser for breast cancer research.

The moms' group is a bunch of moms of preschool kids. Basically through some connections I got contacted to speak to them. AS far as any lesson plan type things...no. I had an outline of sorts but then dropped that when they just kept asking questions.
If I would have had more than the small church conference room where we met I would've had them line up in an offense and a defense and maybe run a rudamentary play.

I used to do this with the moms of my HS players at the start of the school year. Went over great. They said "finally someone is explaining what the game of football is all about." They had a lot of questions about plays, conditioning, nutrition, etc.

this is a great idea. i think "football for moms" and a "film night for dads" is a must for every program.

I think that is a tremendous idea. Get moms on your side and dealing with dad ain't nearly as bad.

For those of you who do film nights for dad what are the ground rules you lay down?

We do Monday Night Moms every 2 weeks. Our JV and Varsity moms come in and we spend an hour going through our JV and Varsity Games to show highlights (different kids each time) and help explain rules and situations. During the year we also have them try on helmets and shoulder pads just to give them an idea of what it is like. I've been doing this for years and it has been a very positive point in our program. I've done the Dad's night for varsity film before but not for a few years.

For those of you who do film nights for dad what are the ground rules you lay down? we haven't had any rules...we just watched the previous weeks game film and may show cuts of our next opponent. Folks are free to ask any question they want (and often do), but the peer pressure of other families involved really prevents parents from blasting individual kids performance.

I LOVE this idea and in my situation it would get our team a lot of publicity! I think that I will begin working on one of these myself.
Chuck,
Do you have a copy of the "outline" that you were gonna cover? If so can you email me a copy of it to soonerfanzrock@hotmail.com
