Offensively:
1) Would you rather game plan against an attacking defensive line (read on the run) or a read then run defensive line? 2) How does it affect your play calling? For example, if your game planning against an attacking defensive line, do you trap more? 3) Why would you rather play against the other defensive philosophy?
Defensively:
1) From personal experience, which defensive line philosophy is more effective or does the different defensive line philosophy work better against certain offenses. 2) If an offense takes advantage of the attacking philosophy (i.e. the trap), how do you counter?

I'm a DC and also coach OL. I'd rather play a reading front because we feel that we're going to run them over. As big and strong as OL are today it's tough to ask DL to catch blocks and get off and make plays. From a defensive viewpoint I've heard variations of the same theme from numerous college DL coaches- "If you're worried about the trap you'll never make plays". Don't get me wrong, we're not running mindlessly upfield. We coach our guys hard to recognize and spill trap. Still, we are attacking.

I'm a DC and my defensive line philosophy is "attack and react". With this philosophy I want my DL flying to their gaps while reading their keys and reacting to the blocks given to them. Hope this makes sense...

as phantom and jackedup said.... attack on the run and make the offense adjust.
Offensively, I like the attack at all costs philospohy guys. traps and screens become your best tool against them.

I would rather face a DL that attacks first, then reads...It makes it easier to set up blocks against those guys.
A Defensive Lineman that Fires off, and makes his reads is a lot harder to block, because he is going to be closing holes that I want to run through.

I think it all depends the kids you have. Our guys I know become tenative when we ask them to read too much, so what I've tried to do is become a better defensive caller and try to put my guys in the spot to make the play. I try and take some thinking out of their hands.

we like to see teams that let their DL attack upfield..Its just a lot harder for them to be option sound.
