to put it in perspective, if your starting qb did that and got kicked out of the game, would you still think its awesome?

I thought it was a sad moment for France as he was their best penalty kick guy and also a team captain...says alot about picking captains based on talent instead of things like BEING SMART!

His act was in no way awesome. It was actually pretty pathetic. And it reinforced why I am not really soccer fan.
How dare they call it a 'Beautiul Game'? A bunch of pansies flopping and rolling around whining to the official. A game where acting is a bigger part than the actual sport. No wonder the Americans suck at it. The Europeans dominate in being carted off the field then returning 10 seconds later with absolutely no injury. Too many of the Americans probably played real football and learned some toughness.

Bulldog...totally agree.
I did see the replay of the penalty they called against Italy for France's first goal. That was ridiculous. France's player flopped and the stupid ref bought it.
Imagine a football game where players flopped for calls and argued with officials all of the time. Imagine 0-0 football games decided on which team could make 5 extra points in the "PAT-out".
I'll take American football thank you. Thanks to the inventors who magically brought rugby and soccer together to make football. The only similarity I like between soccer and football is having 11 people on a side.

drives me nuts! AGGGGHHHHH! Most boring game in the world...worse than womens curling...made it through 5 min of the final...and what's with the players who get these injuries that are so bad they have to be helped off the field...rolling...screaming...crying...and in a couple of min. they are back out there running full speed without even a limp...WTF??

I don't really want to get into it, but I think it's kind of sad that everyone is quick to jump on the soccer-hating bandwagon. American football is rather boring compared to soccer, yet that doesn't change the love and passion I have for football. I don't get why everyone has to be against a sport. You want to talk about boring? Baseball (ugh...), basketball, golf. Flops? Basketball, NFL (with the recent PI and IC rule changes). And what is with the facination over the low scoring? A high scoring game doesn't mean crap when it comes to excitment. As a matter of fact, the 0-0 draws and 1-0 wins are typically some of the most exciting games. I just don' get the logic. I really wish some of you'd learn something about the game instead of simply jumping on the bandwagon. Get over yourselves...
Besides, if you watch top-notch soccer, you'll quickly realize why it is call the "Beautiful Game." A well put-together run is quite possibly the most beautiful thing in sports (besides horse racing of course). Football doesn't have anything that compares. But why can't we love different sports for their differences. If you are expecting to get the same out of soccer that you get from football, you are mistaken. I don't expect the same from football that I see from NASCAR. Common sense, people.
Zidane was provoked by the Italian who reportedly called his mother a "terrorist {censored}" (she is Algerian). FIFA has a strict no-racism rule and I won't be surprised to see the Italian and the entire team heavily sanctioned (according to the rules, the World Cup title could and should be taken away). Zidane won't have to worry about suspension, since he is now retired from all soccer. Never really a reason to headbutt someone, but I have to say that I undertand why Zidane did it.

again, I like soccer, but Zidane is a dumbass. Win the thing, then kick that guy's ass if it bothered him that much.

Fort makes a good point. This doesn't really have much of anything to do with our football. And we don't need hating threads on other sports out there. Thread is locked.
