I would like to hear some opinions on the weaknesses of the 50 double eagle defense. Primarily with a man free secondary.

vs a 1-back set, the SS usually has to invert weak which means the Strong OLB (9-tech) will have to play the TE (if man) or the strong side flat (if 3-zone). susceptible to play-pass strong or run plays where TE releases (more specifically draw type actions).

Not always option sound. We find that many dbl eagle teams have issues with Primary Run Support and PRS option assignment.

I've found that it can be vulnerable to weakside run - particularly vs. 1 back (where the Will adjusts and the Sam is on the TE). Wing counter, power, G schemes, and counter trey (GT) in particular. I haven't seen a real problem with traditional option - but speed option with the Mike over the center is tough since he can get blocked with a scoop. And any time you are in man coverage, you are living on the edge. Rubs, screens and even draw can be a real problem.

going C2 or C4 requires some serious adjustments with your alignments. Double Eagle / 46 is geared for C3, C1, or C0.
Watch your numbers on Option weak....
Double eagle (two eagled defenders = 3 tech) as I know it ---C-----------------------F-----------------------C------------ -----------------$--------------M------------------------------- -------------W----E---N---T----S----E------------------------- --O-------------O--O--X--O--O--TE----------------------------- ------------------------Q------------------------------FL-------- ------------------------F----------------------------------------- ------------------------A-----------------------------------------
other 'weakness'....how do you adjust to trips?

vs. Trip, Corners over on #2 and Will covers #3 - assuming C1/C0. Sam covers the TE.

I think the C gap on TE side can be a little soft at times, we mix in bringing our DE down into C and scrapping our ILB out to D. We play mainly cover 2 with this front.

Rocket and Jet are both good and weakside veer will hurt this defense
