We have over 220 combined years of coaching experience on our coaching staff (I am only contributing 4 of those, need to step my game up.) This was a new one for every single one of us, and it would have never happened without this COVID situation.
So, all of our players have to bring their own water jug. Most of our kids have those big igloo type water coolers, but we have a big supply of gallon water jugs from the grocery story that the booster club bought, so we hand those out when someone forgets theirs. They can still refill that same jug from the trainer and use it until they lose it or whatever.
A week or so ago we are doing our first true 11 on 11 team session. Our starting nose is getting gassed and he needs a sub. We yell for a particular one, and he is taking a while. We keep yelling, and he FINALLY starts running on the field.
I am not sure how it took any of us this long to notice, but he runs all the way to his spot at nose WITH HIS GALLON OF WATER STILL IN HAND!! He got down into his stance with the jug right by him. He didn't even think to throw it down over on the sideline, he just ran onto the field with it in a panic. Everyone is screaming at him "John! John! Your water!" He finally realizes it, picks it up, launches it behind the quarterback so it's out of play, and the top pops off upon landing and every drop of water in the jug spills out!!
