I have read several posts concerning Texas HS coaches teaching varsity athletic periods. I don't know what this his, however, I am 2nd interviewing for a HC position with PE teaching - 5 periods of strength and conditioning. Does anyone have ideas for curriculum, programs, lessons. I'd like to encorparate mental training; leadership and cross-training. I have a masters in ex phys. so Im not looking for specific training programs just ideas I can take into the interview to blow them away. I have seen the BFS programs,Thanks.

Coach, I would suggest tying all aspects of the fitness area together. You can teach a coaching portion, where your students can pick a particular sport and break it down as to how they would teach it. With your exercise phys. background you can have the students break down each movement into its smaller movements. They would be able to describe and demonstrate the muscles which are required for each movement. You can include a marketing portion of the program where your students can come up with a particular fitness iproduct. They would describe it, describe who and how they would market the product , a final project would be required for the coaching segment, as well as the marketing segment. I would set up an articulation with the local feeder middle school or schools and have your Juniors and Seniors co-op with the middle school. Schools today are big into community service. This was just a fast reply to your message, but I would attack the interview from a perspective that is a little different, not your typical canned response. Coach Geiser
