Yesterday I saw the Cleveland Browns run a Jet with Josh Cribbs against the dolphins. They got about 3 to 4, but it was the first time I have seen it in the NFL (in any recent memory). There was a thread before that mentioned San Fran ran one but it was a reverse. Did anyone else see it?

I didn't see this one, but I did see the one San Fran used, it was an actual jet and not a reverse. I also saw the Lions use one with Calvin Johnson earlier this year, both were fairly successful although the lions looked horribly executed. The jet will never be a staple in the NFL, but much like a trick play, when used sparingly I think it can be a great play for a first down every now and then.

The announcers always call the Jet a reverse, not sure why. For some reason that bugs me.
Seems like we saw a lot more college teams running the Jet 10 years ago than today. I see more of that Orbit Motion sweeps than Jet these days it seems. Have no idea why.

We had a thread about the NFL Jet a few weeks ago when Arizona and San Fran played a night game. They both ran some Jet during the game. I think the Niners scored a 2 point conversion with a Jet Sweep in the game.

If anyone in the No Fundies League ever cottons on that the Jet is a series, not a play, we might actually see something interesting on Sundays...

define "all the time" how many times did it happen this sunday? by whom? how many times did it happen last weekend? which teams? how many times has it happened this season? stats? define "all the time" Show me the stats that it never happens. Just because it doesnt happen on the field as it does in the or instruction video does not mean it does not happen. You serious? I mean, you claim it happens all the time when the debate here (with actual games/plays being discussed) is that it is rather rare. However, you say "Don't know what you are watching. happens all the time" .. which implies that YOU have seen it tons and we are just flat out missing it. So, I asked if you could enlighten me on what exactly I have been missing. Perhaps, it happened "all the time" in those games I wasn't watching... or, it "happened all the time" and we're just too stupid to see it (which, might be what is being implied in the initial post). So, just to clarify... YOU make a statement that says it happens all the time but offer no stats or dates or games to support it but I (WE) are the ones that are supposed to prove or disprove YOUR statement...

Uh, are we talking rocket or jet? Those are two different plays the way I interpet the terms. I, for one, very rarely see what I consider true jet sweeps or rocket sweeps in NFL games.

pot calling kettle... You say it never happens. it is no different than me saying it always happens. Semantics. I dont keep stats. I watch it for my own purposes. Their is no difference with the two statements. I use to say the same thing about mesh. They are running it all the time. Just because I didnt see it? doesnt mean it wasnt happening. I had to pay attention. JUST THE WATCH THE GAMES the way you watch your films. I have seen so stuff that people say isnt happening, AND GUESS WHAT IT IS. Gruden Ran rocket TWICE vs the rams I believe. Listed is my office number. I believe you should call me so that we can discuss the problems you have with me and my post. I will be expecting your call... I will mail you my number.... Let me clarify ... I did not say it happens all the time. I was seeking clarification from you that said it did. But, I can see this is about getting arguementative with someone, rather than confidently justifying your statements. You may, in fact, be right about it "happening all the time" as I do not have anything in front of me to support one side or the other --- hence, I didn't contend that it does or does not occur X% of the time, whatever ... Thus, I wanted to see what your evidence showed so that we would all have a better idea of just how often "all the time" is occurring. I'm sorry if I mislead you to believe that I have all the answers/stats on this or any other nfl issue. But, on those things where I try to speak about, I do so with at least some small portion of tangible data to use as proof that I'm not just spouting off statements, generalizations, cliches, or otherwise.

I think all the arguing is probably because you guys aren't calling the same play "jet". Why don't we describe what "jet" is and then evaluate it.

I see Trap in different forms all the time too. I really think all this back and forth is because people are calling different plays "JET" Coach Huey, what do you define "JET" as. Coachjerk, what do you define "JET" as?

coachjerk--is the handoff right near the LOS, meaning, WR full speed motion, and the qb times his reverse out and hand off right with that, or is the jet the hand off off the LOS, after a fake IZ action to hold the backside pursuit?
I see a lot of faking of the latter, but I haven't ever seen the former.

coachjerk--I have no idea. I have never run it. I would guess most teams just reach to run this play. I have to agree with some of the others here though, I have never seen the "jet" play you described run in the NFL. Not saying it isn't happening, just not happening in the games I watch..or more specifically, when I was watching .

Is there a difference between fly sweep and jet sweep? I have seen fly sweep on very rare occasions in the NFL. Maybe once every 4 or 5 weeks. College you see fly and jet sweep more frequently, not a staple of an offense, but you'll see it 4 or 5 times per saturday if you watch a lot of games. You'll see rocket sweep quite a bit if you watch Navy and I'm sure some other teams run it as well. But the NFL, I rarely rarely see any of these plays.

Is there a difference between fly sweep and jet sweep? They are the same concept, full-speed motion with a handoff/fake and a dive back with a handoff/fake. The difference is that on Jet the FB runs up the midline (handoffs/fakes with the opposite hand) and on Fly the FB dives behind the playside guard handoffs/fakes with the same hand).
