that depends on your perspective of 'psychology'.
Anyone can coach the kid with good work habits. But is that really coaching?
Can you change his perspective on how to IDENTIFY himself?
Sports (football, in particular) can do that.
Football players aren't 'lazy'...football players aren't 'soft'......football players are TOUGH and aggressive.
Can you get him to buy into that perception? He will empower himself to make those kind of decisions once he sees himself as a "
football player".Moms & Dads can baby their children all they want....but when it hits the fan with his PEERS, what is that kid going to do? If his peer group is preaching execution, do you think this kid will just be a lazy butt?
On the field....
.....1) parents don't matter
.....2) girlfriends don't matter
.....3) COACHED don't matter
What matters is the guy next to you. Are you willing to lose HIS respect out of comfort?
Can the coaching staff develop a positive peer culture of excellence? Coaching / Program building isn't about weeding kids out, it is about developing an atmosphere of fun/excitement for great effort / performance where the kids weed themselves of the 'bad fruit'.
If the kid isn't getting the job done, it ain't personal, just replace his butt.
