Hey guys,
This is my first post on this board in probably a decade! I'm so excited to see that it is still up and running and active like it used to be!
I was a young, hungry football coach with a thirst for any sort of knowledge I could absorb and this site was like my support group to talk with other football addicts!
After about 13 years of bouncing around from small college jobs all over the country with the occasional HS job mixed in (I was a Varsity Head Coach at 24 years old, man did I think I knew it all), I packed up my football stuff and let it collect dust in the garage while I got married, raised two children, bought my first home, move cross country again, and began coaching lacrosse again. Lacrosse has been fun and its sort of a good substitute, but there is nothing like coaching football.
This past summer I accepted a new lacrosse job at a private Christian school and they gave me a MS PE job, allowed my kids to come to school with me, and allowed me to be an assistant Varsity Football Coach again!!
It took like 12 minutes of being on the field to totally juice me up like I hadn't been in years. I had missed it so much. We had a terrible season, but I loved being at it again. I'm struggled all season with finding the balance of offering my opinion on things, or just shutting up and going with the program. I'll tell you this, it is much harder to be an assistant coach than a Head Coach in my opinion. As a Head Coach, if you see a problem you go and fix it. As an assistant, it isn't that easy. Maybe some problems aren't yours to solve. It really has been fun to get back to football.
A few weeks ago my HS alma mater's coach resigned. I thought man that would be my dream to have that job! I had no intentions of applying though. I live 1000 miles away now, their program is very successful and I thought for sure had an assistant ready to take over, and I truly do love the school I'm at now coaching both sports. That plan changed the other day, when the AD called me and told me he is getting contacted by all sorts of alumni telling him that I need to be contacted! I was shocked to hear from him. After a long conversation with the wife, I am now set to interview for my dream job! One that I didn't think would ever be in my future.
Crazy how things happen like this! Glad this board is still here and I've already found a few interview pointers on here that I plan to use!
Merry Christmas to everyone!
