There is a head coaching job in my local area that is open. I am still in school and will finish in May with me degree to coach and teach. I was wondering if you guys think it would be too early for me to apply for this job. The last few years it has been kind of rocky there and I am wanting a job like this that will present me with a challenge. Anyway, do you think that it is too early for me to apply since I am graduating in may and wont have certifications til around that time?

Never hurts to apply in any situation. The important thing is that you will be certified by next season and school year correct? Are you going into teaching and is there a teaching job with the football job. From my experience, being a first year teacher and freshmen coach was a lot; I can't imagine coupling first year teacher growing pains along with being the HC. Again, never hurts to apply if you truely are interested.

Sorry, coach, I guess I skipped right over the "and teach" part of your post.

If you want to be a coach, then apply for the job. Be aggressive, but professional in your approach. There's already been a thread on this but don't bury them with paper - drop in and introduce yourself to the AD and the principal and let them know of your sincere interest.
As a first year teacher, they may not be excited about hiring you to be the header. On the other hand, they may be willing to give a young guy his first chance if he's ready. Are you ready? Have references call on your behalf. Make sure your resume is ready to go. Have a brief outline of offense and defense - they already know you're not Urban Meyer, just give them enough to show you've thought this out!

Apply. Get all the experience you can gain, and the application/interview/hiring process is great experience.

Well I would like to say that I am a young coach but I am about to turn 35 on sunday... wow 35... So maybe with my age and the fact that I have coached a semi-pro team a couple of years (seasons) will help out as well. I cant wait and get out there and put the DW to use in a highschool system that has some really great athletes like this school has!
