what is the worst thing you have done as a coach, be it to a player or parent or other coach or other team.

Youth football, 6th graders, game was close. 2nd team offense (which consists of 5 or 6 kids that hadn't been in the game yet) was told to wait one more series so the first team could try and score to get the lead.
A long drive by us, and a long drive by my opponent and the game was over. I will never make that mistake again.
I feel like i'm in confession

2 things 1. Was coaching a junior football team and we were warming up for our first game. This was my first coaching stint ever and I had these 7th & 8th graders running drills like I had in college. Very physical, tough, etc stuff. So we're warming up and I have the linemen. We're doing stance and starts and we're all on the line firing out when I have them partner up to get a bit of resistance as they fire out. Well I yell hit and the kids fire out. The problem was the kids were to close together and one fell on top of the other. The kid on bottom starts rolling around, moaning and eventually crying. I told him in my hardcore coach voice to stop being a wussy and get up. The kid couldn't and eventually I had to carry him off the field. This kid was always getting hurt and I just figured he was being a wuss. His parents come and get him and take him to the hospital. Anyway, in the second half his dad comes up to me on the sidelines and tells me that he broke his FEMUR and that he was sorry, but he couldn't play anymore this year. I felt like a gigantic weiner. Kid never played football again. 2. Applied for, and accepted the head coaching job at the place coachf is currently at.

I did not let our 2 starting running backs go out for Home coming . They were nominated to represent their class. We were behind at half 21-0. They were pissed to say the least, as well as the administration. I told them they needed to stay in because we were making adjustments. Needless to say, we lost the game 38-28 but they scored all our TD's...lol After looking back at it...I do regret it. I was a first year HFC.

Tried to go spread (in one weeks time) against a really tough team. In my defense, we sort of had to due to all of the injuries. Although, it was stupid to think we could completely change our philosophy in one week. But, as larrymoe can attest, we are lucky our quarterback is still alive.

I don't know that WE'RE lucky he's still alive, but he certainly is. Especially given the amazing talent level of our RT that game. At least that game did force us to make some changes that ended up helping us to the playoffs. If he hadn't of lived, we wouldn't have had to put up with him punching that other kid on the bus the next week, his mom would've never flipped out, and I may still be there. Who knows? ;D
