it's been around for quite some time. i thought it was fading away, but apparently not. some company (or 2) have developed "spats" kids can purchase to put over their shoes.
at my previous school, this was THE thing to do but it started to fade near the end of my time there. at my school now, we don't have too much of this. might have 1 or 2 kids do it during summer 7 on 7 but none during actual games.

We don't allow them to pull their socks down in a game. Practice is o.k. But it does look dumb.

Our kids love to do the taped spat, but they want nothing to do with the ones you can buy.

The ones you can buy are GROSS. We had a kid who got neon yellow ones. I like how the tape looks if done right and it can actually serve some purpose if done correctly.

I actually like these............but really it is just made to look like the shoe is taped - functionally, Payton used to do it to prevent guys from untying his shoes.
We never had an 'issue' with these (it was usually the guys that aren't starting that want these - to look good), but other teams would have tons of players getting the plastic ones.

Thank grambling state for it.
They use the matching yellow spats in their uniforms, and for some reason the kids are all about it now.

Don't like it at all. It's one more lame attempt for a kid to call attention to himself instead of sacrificing individual recornition in and being part of a Team. "Uniform" means all the same. We do not allow this type of stuff in practice or in games, nor do we allow our trainer (or the kids) to tape/spat their shoes.

You can also thank Madden and NCAA football games for keeping it fresh in kids minds. Granted on the games it supposed to represent tape but spats are easier to get on than tape. Personally i hate them both. If you are going to tape the ankle, tape the ankle and put the taped ankle into your cleats not tape over them! Just my 2 cents.

Taping shoes is a waste of tape. Only time I taped a shoe was when our LB came off the field with a busted shoe lace.
