I could not believe they have 200+ universities in Japan playing American Football.

Does anyone know when this game will be on again? I had to go to a family function and forgot to record it.

I would think the Japanese would be very big into football. The team work and the sacraficing one's self for the good of the team. Sometimes I think that is lacking in our athletes, at least on the pro level.

Watched the first half of the game...
And a few things stood out to me...
1. Similar to our discussions about why option football isn't ran in the pro's, and even the upper eschalon of college... Japan was running their SG Spread Option Jet Package... and though it looked great in execution, very seldom were the Americans fooled, and out of position to make the play.
Japan's biggest plays were screens, taking advantage of the USA's aggressiveness... and down field passing... the Japan QB's could throw the ball nice.
And though their spread option looked good in execution... as well as their jet package... every once and a while they'd hit for 6+... but for the most part, it was 1 or 2 yard gains.
2. Japan's defense was more awe inspiring, than their offense. General consensus, would have had us big Americans pushing around the small Japanese... nothing could be further fromt the truth... the Japanese had great lateral movement, ball pursuit and gap integrity... they got it done.
Coming into this game, they had not been scored upon in the contest... and though they were putting up 77 pts against their opposition, whom obviously weren't as talented as the Americans, hence their success, and lacked the experience to protect their area, hence their failute against the Americans, their SG spread option was percision... but against, wiley vets and equivalent talent... they couldn't really sustain drives on USA.
3. Every other play... a Japanese player was hurt. Whether it was size, or just physicality... we put a beating on the Japanese players, and it showed...
4. America's best play was the simple toss. They'd try to get fancy and the Japanese defense would pursue and make good plays... but when USA, swept to the corners with the big bodies in front... they were +6 all night.
5. To me, this game really epitomizes why, Spread Option isn't a big scheme in the pro's, and is huge in high school... when the talent is truly differentiated, the Spread option is awesome... but when 4 to 5 guys can stop the run... you have to inevitably become stronger and faster... and if you are going to spend your time on that... you have to give up the learning time it takes to be proficient in the Optioin and multi-fake offenses.

it looked more like the japan team had a good scheme, but that their player didn't have the innate ability to "see" the cuts
there were a ton of lanes to run their stuff through they just didn't see them as natural

espnu has florida and florida state from 2006 on right now that spread option sutff seems to be doing ok 2006? I'm not watching, but if memory serves me correct... 2004-2007 have been some very down years for the Seminoles? And who's running spread option? Florida and Chris Leak? I don't think so... they spread you out... but there was nothing option oriented about it... 1 or 2 plays, but they usually failed horribly with Leak at the QB, and hence Tebow became the phenomenon! What was that score? 14-7? What was FSU's record that year? 7-6? What was your point again?

fsu defense was loaded it was their offense that sucked
florida ran a lot of option stuff in that game, yes, with leak
was it full tilt triple? no,
but it was fun to watch, and there was option in there

Not that I want to argue... What am I saying... of course I want to argue... been looking for your response all day to argue... ;D However... FSU's Defense was BUTT in 2006... Result/Time Record/Tickets TV at No. 12 Miami (FL) W 13-10 1-0 (1-0) Troy W 24-17 2-0 (1-0) ESPN GamePlan Online Clemson L 27-20 2-1 (1-1) Rice W 55-7 3-1 (1-1) at North Carolina State L 24-20 3-2 (1-2) at Duke W 51-24 4-2 (2-2) No. 22 Boston College L 24-19 4-3 (2-3) at Maryland L 27-24 4-4 (2-4) Virginia W 33-0 5-4 (3-4) No. 18 Wake Forest L 30-0 5-5 (3-5) Western Michigan W 28-20 6-5 (3-5) No. 4 Florida L 21-14 6-6 (3-5) vs UCLA W 44-27 7-6 (3-5) Gave Up 17 pts to Troy? 27 to Clemson? 24 to NC state... and Duke? BC put up 24... Maryland 27... Wake Forest blitzed them with 30... And if this doesn't drive the point home... Western Michigan... put up 20 on FSU... Would you like to retract that FSU defense was loaded?

they had some serious talent
fleuellen, buster davis at lb
plus rivalry games kinda torque things up
end of any argument here for me
spread option works and it works well
just like a ton of other stuff does
