Several posts got me thinking about how lucky we've been, in the last couple of programs I've worked, in that there has been a great deal of financial support for our program. While we have done a little fund raising, we have been lucky in that there have been very few things that we wanted that we were told 'No' when we asked for them. Now of course it's been within reason... we haven't asked for indoor facilities, etc....
In reading several threads both on and in between the lines, fund raising seems to be one of the most important things a coach/staff needs to do for many. So naturally I started to think about it in terms of dollars and cents.
So I'll throw this out to the wisdom of the board and ask: how much do you depend on your fund raising efforts to run and support your program each year?
I realize that there are a great many things to consider when taking about budgets. I also realize that there are certain 'off limits' items when talking about finainces, especially when dealing with public monies.
Feel free to add: -what you overall budgets is -if that includes, or does not include the staff's supplements -control you have over budget -TD/Football club help with finances -extras you feel necessary for YOUR program

We don't have any money allotted to us. We have to fund raise and you use gate money.

We get zero from the district. We have to fundraiser everything. Our booster club, gate and concessions fund the program. District used to pay for helmet reconditioning but they’ve stopped. We have to pay for our buses.
There may be programs funded like ours but I don’t believe anyone gets less than we do. We basically work all year round to try to get what we need.

All of our programs are self-sufficient (I think that's the right word)... football survives on the gate, concessions, and fundraising... We have a sponsor banner sale (think signs that hang on the fence), we do what we call a sponsor line banner (BTW, this is a great fundraiser), all you do is have the kids sell a line for $10 and it goes on the banner.. It can be as simple as their name or Go #10.... We do a golf tournament in the spring... supplements are paid by the county and we are not allowed to pay volunteers.... I control my budget 100%.. If the money is there, we can get it....

The school I am at now funds the coaches stipends, $5k for safety (helmets, shoulder pads, helmet reconditioning), field/game expenses, and buses. Everything else is on the team - uniforms, footballs, cones, decals, helmets, girdles, shorts, t-shirts, coaches shirts, hats, everything is on the team and the Boosters ($8k per year). We do not get the gate.

We get to keep our participation fee ($70 per kid), concessions. The district keeps gate $$. I don't get a budget, so we fundraise about half of what we need. The player fees supplement helmet reconditioning, uniform replacement, and travel. There is talk in my state of not allowing fundraisers anymore. Not sure what idiot thinks that's plausible, but our politicians aren't all winners.

It does appear that our district pays for certain things for other sports but not us. Our district will pay for our MS program to get reconditioned but not us.
