i have done a lot of thinking about our super bowl that took place just a week ago. the day after the super bowl everyone was busy piling on mcvey saying the moment was just to big for the young coach... well there may be something to that bb has coached i hope i am right, winning 8 as a head or assistant coach, without a doubt is the GOAT.
i have a theory that what really happened is something i have seen in all levels of football. i think that mcvey got caught up in the greatness and legend of BB. i have many of their games on tape and the superbowl was very different than the rest of the season. he had the most vanilla game plan, gone were many of the jet sweeps, reverses and any other kind of mis-direction. did he suddenly go dumb? to answer my own question since i am asking it first, i think this. instead of being his usual innovative self with twice the time to prepare a great game plans and a couple new wrinkles. we saw none of that, one of the sharpest minds in the game go totallu vanilla. i think he knew he was playing the greatest coach in all of history and psyched himself out thqt there was nothing he could do to confuse or fool BB. where was the guy that ran fake punts gambling to make a big play. not so, he took all of his innovation and put it in his tool box and tried to duke it out old school.
now let me tell you i am in awe of BB and what he has been able to do over the many years but i also think that the rams should have won the game, they were the more athletic team not by a little bit but a lot. i know that the best teams do not always win.
i welcome your comments on an hopefully civil discourse i have not been here on a very long time and i am glad to be back. i leave you with this quote from an unknown person "Luck is not a plan."

I don't think that he got psyched out or in his own head, to an extent where he in some way 'clammed up' in regards to play calling and planning. I think that kind of buys into the hype that the media tries to portray in regards to 'playcallers who draw stuff up on the sideline' and nonsense of that ilk.
The offensive playcall selection, and overall gameplan, is not a one man show. There are multiple professional coaches on the staff who made the plan and are more than capable of coaching in a superbowl against Bill Belichick without getting in their own head.
It seemed that without their best underneath threat/slot receiver in Kupp (whose injury really signaled the start of their offensive woes of recent), and the probable injuries at RB (despite there being no reports), they figured it would be best to let the air out of the ball. Play conservative and let their defense carry more of the load in winning the game. Going into the final qtr they were tied, so maybe not that bad of an idea.

At the end of the day, the NFL is a business. They are first concerned about making money. Maybe the result of the Super Bowl was what was going to make the most money for the NFL.

I don’t necessarily buy the over enamorstion of Bill Belichick. Mostly because McVay sits across the room from a defensive legend in his own right in Wade Phillips. Is he Belichick, well no but his credibility and experience is on a pretty unique level, enough that McVay can get comfortable with elite NFL defensive decision making.

If you are suggesting that the NFL Superbowl had a pre determined outcome, AND one that resulted in a decline of ratings numbers, and had fans (consumers) rushing to social media to proclaim it the most boring superbowl ever... I am not sure I can agree with that. Yes, the NFL is a business and such actions as pre determining the outcome of the game would result in things such as congressional hearings, criminal charges, civil lawsuits etc. It would end the business. Not to mention because of the gambling involved, some may find nefarious endings as well. I think they simply felt that they would not be able to do certain things against the Patriots defense, so they didn't attempt them.

First off why would the NFL rig the game for a team they spent millions and millions of dollars on trying to take down in various scandals the last few years? Deflategate, how much time and money spent on that trying to take them down and all the pr it created but hey lets make sure they win the Super Bowl because... On the Rams preference, we've all had a game plan where we are like "Yup this is GOLD" then you go out and get punched in the face a few times and it all goes to chit and you can't recover. It's not like the Rams didn't have their chances there were a couple brilliant defensive plays that saved TD's in the game. Sometimes you just can't get it going even thought you thought you had the best plan in the world.

Be patient and hope that the offensive playcaller isn't. They'll rarely let you down.

I still can't understand why so many people think that the SB was boring/dull. I know everyone wanted a Chiefs/Rams rematch, but low scoring games create more drama than shootouts. Week 11 Chiefs at the Rams 54-51 Rams win 17 scoring plays game winning score was 1/17th of all scoring plays SB Patriots vs Rams 13-3 Pats win 4 scoring plays game winning score was 1/4th of all scoring plays In the SB, every score was more meaningful and impactful on the game.
