Hey guys we are venturing into some uncharted territory here and looking for some advice. The way football here is structured is there is no junior high (G7-9) school football. All of the kids at that age that play football play at the community level we have 1 community feeder in our area where we get about 10 kids a year from. The rest of the kids we get are kids who have never played at all. We are looking at going to our feeder JH schools and running some camps in the spring with the kids there. We have about 3-4 JH that range in size. My initial thought is this - it needs to be fun so there needs to be an element of small games to it just not sure what yet
- skill circuits some bag / cone drills to get them warm
- circuit with bags and wheels for tackling and blocking, route running and catching
- end with a touch football tournament?
- total time maybe an hour 20-30 min of skill development and then the tournament
- what would you had out at this event to the kids who come? stickers, t-shirts?
Some of this is a PR thing for sure it is about building awareness as much as it is getting these young kids familiar and excited about the game. These kids have a choice of where to go for JH we want them to choose our school.
Any thoughts out there?
