What do you guys think? How much does the extended time between the end of the regular season and the bowl season affect the play of a team? I spoke to a few coaches some young and some veteran and there seems to be a controversy. I think OSU was affected by the 51 days between game. And do you think it is a defensive or offensive advantage? Just wondering

any time you have a layoff you are going to be rusty. you can only practice so long. i do not believe a big ten playoff game would have helped either. it would have been a 44 day layoff then.
fact is if we had a playoff they would be playing the next week.

real easy solution.... MAKE THE BIG TEN INELLIGIBLE FOR BCS GAMES..............seeing how the "layoff" doesn't affect any other conference.

I don't know if it affects one team more than another. But, it does show the stupidity of the NCAA. I believe this is one of the reasons the casual fan tends to enjoy the NFL more than the NCAA.
I think teams will be rusty with a long layoff, but usually that shakes off pretty early. BTW, I don't know how rusty the special teams of OSU were. They seemed pretty good at the beginning.

The Big 10 is the only conference in the nation that plays 12 straight weeks. There is no off week in their season.
Imagine playing 10 regular season games in highschool then waiting a month and a half to start the playoffs...coaches and players would be off their game..
