Hi Gents,
Ok, now this could just be plain odd and confusing for all. But I "remember" when I was a little lad of 7 reading about the Raiders running a fake punt where the punter actually just hauls it down field, all the CBs assume it has been punted and bump the WRs/gunners drawing a PI call.....
However I have never spoken to anyone who saw it, and so truth be known I have no idea if I just imagined it.....
Anyway know what the hell I'm going on about??
Thanks in advance for reading such an odd post....
Matt

I run this in my fake punt scheme. Usually from the 30 and in, when you would pooch punt. I have the punter step once to show punt, and then the line surge blocks him from view. He throws it at either upright as high and as far as he can into the endzone. The deep back calls fair catch and dutifully stays at the 10 yard line as he is taught not to back up, and the gunners run the ball down on deep posts. We have fun practicing the play, but your punter has to have a good arm to be convincing.

The Bears ran this last season (I believe they've done it every year, though).
They run everything like the standard punt, #1's heading straight down field inside, but the #2 wings release in a wheel pattern. Typically, once this guy releases he's getting molested downfield, with the defender never looking at the ball. The punter just pulls up and throws it in the general direction of #2 on the flat/wheel = automatic 1st down (NFL)>

Mmmm, the plot thickens, lol!
Has anyone got any links for videos of it?
Thanks for helping prove that I probably did see it, and hence the mind isn't playing tricks.....

I know Notre Dame ran it in one of Lou Holtz's last few years too.

apparently......you can jam #1 on a punt (?) and it isn't an issue (usually the Pros DOUBLE these guys).........but #2 becomes an eligible receiver because he is in the backfield technically, and can receive the ball. Jamming #1 isn't PI, but #2 is.
It was a strange PI call when it was called in the Bears game two years ago - but it was pretty cool that it worked.

I have always thought about doing that too. Thanks for clearing up the rules brophy. Maybe it'd be better to line up like this than ..................E..T..G..C..G..T................................................X ................................................................Z........................ ..................B....................B................................................ .......................................................................................... ..............................P..........................................................
Hit Z on the wheel with X clearing to the MOF?
