We were supposed to play our semi-final game saturday, but due to inclement weather it was put off until today (monday). That is all well and good, but the problem is, the finals are scheduled for this coming saturday. That means the two teams in the finals will have 2 less days to prepare, heal up, etc. than usual. The coaches are considering petitioning our state association to move the finals back an entire week to the next saturday, in which case you would have 12 days to get ready.
So my questions are, would you rather play the finals minus a day or two of normal preparation, or move them back and have maybe too long in between games? What are the plusses and minuses for both situations? Have you ever been in either of these predicaments and how did you adjust/ what were the results ?

I wouldn't put too much time in between the games. I know as a player, when we were in the state finals, the time period between felt like forever. It was way too much time to think about it and get nervous. Plus, it was way too much time for kids to goof off and spend the whole week doing nothing, because "We're playing at state."
As a coach, I would like more time. As a player, I hated it. By Thanksgiving (the day before our game), I was drained. I was sick of the pep rallys, the newspapers, the TV interviews.
Just my opinion.

at this point in the year, how much better is one more practice (or 4 more) gonna really matter? as long as you have adequate time to prepare the team mentally (game plan, adjustments, scouting report, etc.) then i would think you guys will be just fine if you play it saturday. will playing next week hurt or help? i do think the "nervousness" factor can't be overlooked but, at the same time, it does allow you to really heal up good if needed
