None of us drink enough water right? So in order for our kids to gain weight in the offseason shouldn't the first step be to increase their water intake? In a hard 45 minute weight workout won't the average kid sweat off a pound of water weight? Seems like without even changing their diet we can improve their ability to gain weight by replacing lost fluids and even promoting increased water intake throughout the day. Am I preaching to the choir or are most coaches ignoring this important aspect of training?

I think increasing fluid intake and makeing sure your kiddos are drinking enough water is a great thing to preach. I don't think it'll necessarily help them gain weight, but it is healthy practice, and a good life habit to start.

Our team athletic trainer told us you should drink an amount (in OZ) equal to 50% of your body wt. Example 220# kid should drink a minumum of 110oz of water daily.

At the moment I am laughing my arse off Greg at that one. A classic Wyatt quote from this summer.

It amazes me how many of these kids are chronically de-hydrated. Using the bathroom after them is like peeing into a toilet full of orange juice (because most them don't flush ). But then again I guess that's what happens when all you drink is the pop from the pop machine that every school has in it now.

Coincidentally, I just received this email today:
"It has been scientifically proven that if you drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year you will have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli (E-coli) bacteria found in feces. In other words, you will have consumed 1 kilo of poop!
"However, you do not run that risk when drinking beer or other spirits because alcohol has to go through the distillation process of boiling, filtering, and fermenting.
"So remember - It is better to drink beer and talk sh!t than to drink water and be full of sh!t.
"There is no need to thank me for this valuable information. I am doing this as a public service."
You may not want to share this with your players, however.
