I'm taking over as DC at our school. Our former OC is taking over as HC. We're looking at using 3D Coaching as a training for staff this Spring and Summer. Anyone who's used it, can you help a bit...
1. What did you like about the program? Where did you benefit?
2. What did you dislike?
3. Do you feel it's something for the whole staff to train on? Or just have myself and HC do the training and then take it back to the coaches and kids?
Thanks guys!

It is an outstanding program. It changed our program for the better. Practical ideas for positive coaching and team development. Encourages self examination and reflection for why you coach. Several courses to choose from. The one for credit is very long. The shorter ones cover enough basics to benefit from. Whole staff would be ideal, head coach definitely needs to be on board with using their ideas. .

I don't think you're going to take it to the kids so much as you/adults are going to have their thinking reshaped.
It was inspirational and caused a lot of us to take a different tact with the kids than we previously would use. We found ourselves talking to the players differently (seeing them differently, examining situations, handling circumstances, etc) as we spent more time on the curriculum.
It was given to all athletic coaches at our school this past summer and we were given the semester to have completed the entire program (15 hours or so). Some coaches brushed through it (rolling videos in the background while doing something else and fudging the quizzes) while others took it more serious. I'm sure if you had your entire staff do it, you'd have a mix of those who took it serious and those who didn't
It's really long and hard to find that kind of time. The previous poster mentioned the short version of the program of which I can't speak to. I'd talk to your staff about it (show a trailer/video or have them read testimonials) and see if you have buy in before spending the money and mandating it on them. We had a presenter (Wes from the videos) come to our school and do half a day's worth of PD this summer to kind of whet our appetite. If your coaches are bought in and want it, you'll get a better result. If it's forced on them, I doubt you'll get your money's worth. I, overall, thought it was well worth it.

wingfi so you say the entire full continuing credit program takes 15 hours of work/study time to complete?

Maybe 13 hours. It was every bit of it and I enjoyed it. Did a little at a time and it wasn't too bad. There is a condensed "essentials" course that might be best for one or two guys that just want to look into it (cost $20 online it looks like).

Great program. We went through it after a 1-9 season (4 years ago). It helped our coaching staff refocus on the most important role we play as coaches, helping our athletes become successful adults, fathers, and husbands.
Since that time, we have gone 34 and 7, including 2 back to back district championships.
That's a good testimony for 3D Coaching.

Best thing any coach could do is sell out to studying this model. No X and O will benefit you more than the 3D coaching model. Its changed my career!

It is transformational. It will change who you are as a coach and as a man.

Holy crap guys!
I'm going through the program right now as a starter session. When our companion books get here, the HC and I are going to go through together. This way, one person has an idea of the program and can expand on things.
This thing is FOR REAL! I've always noticed myself doing things in the 2nd and 3rd dimension, but could never explain how or why. I definitely couldn't organize it.
This framework is changing my mind to more than just coaching. I'm using things in the classroom and they are effective day 1. I'm also using some things at home with our family. My wife has watched some of the videos and is loving the messages that we can instill with our daughter.
Can't wait to see the end and go through again!!
