How do you guys handle Injured Players? Do you not have any rules for them? Do you have them participate in other drills or have any them help you with other functions for the team? I just read Tom Herman uses an Area 51 approach where the injured players head over to the strength trainer and still performs some function to maintain an all in philosophy.

If possible, he does walkthroughs and installs with the Team, but is inactive during Groups and scrimmage drills. There he usually gets a task to watch for certain things, depending how "Football smart" he is.

They film our practice periods for us, but we also have the kicker do that and he's better at it so they just follow him around. Theoretically they're supposed to clean up the field (cones, dummies, etc) if able when we head into team period but that rarely happens. The trainer will have them do some exercises but that can only take so long.
Mostly they stand around and get in the way or screw around on the golf cart.

Ideally, with a good trainer, they are doing something with the trainer or they are with their group at least watching drills. In the real world, where that good trainer doesn't always exist, it's a nightmare. Been in both situations.

The nightmare is dealing with those that have a concussion and are in concussion protocol.

They have something to do each day once they've started on the "return to play" portion of the protocal.

For us it depends on how serious they about returning to play. Luckily we only had one this year on the varsity. Had a freshmen kid that milked it for 5 weeks, refusing to go see his doctor.
