That's a pretty big leap from that article to your conclusion

That's a pretty big leap from that article to your conclusion Yeah. This is what the NFL has been working towards for decades. All the rules to favor throwing the ball, not hitting the QB, salary caps, etc. The super long schedule (4 preseason games, 16 regular season, and then playoffs on top of that) demands they have to do some stuff to limit punishment to players' bodies and the revenue and ratings dictate they throw the ball as much as possible because that's what fans want to see. I do think that 6 man or 8 man football may eventually become a lot more mainstream than it is now, especially at the small school level, as participation drops in so many places and the CTE hysteria convinces people that playing OL and DL is too dangerous. With so many schools already struggling to field teams of 25 or more and having to forfeit games or even entire seasons due to low numbers, 6 man becomes a good solution, even though there's a big bias against it in our state and many other places.

The problem with the move ultimately is the game will be unwatchable. There is no market for safe, everybody can sports. Violence is the cash cow! This is mma is so big. No, you're missing blockandtackle's whole point--the NFL is moving to it because it's what fans want to see. There IS a market. Fans watching on tv don't want to watch smash mouth football. They want to see big name QBs throwing to fleet footed receivers. That's what the NFL is giving them.

The most serious injury I've ever seen was the result of flag football. Two kids ran head first into each other going a pass, one kid needed 50 stitches (glasses cut him up) the other stopped breathing after having a massive seizure. We had to give him CPR and have him airlifted.
Accidents happen. That's just life.

Not to thread Jack but something I saw that I thought was interesting was a youth league (5th and 6th grade, I think) was doing full pads but no tackling. The kids still blocked and all the plays were the same but the kids did not tackle they tagged off 2 hands style. The coaches said it gave them time to really focus on the fundamentals of the game without having kids line up and run into each other trying to make a big tackle. Just thought it seemed like an interesting idea
