Knighter likes the DW Kool-Aid. He coaches in Iowa, and rumor has it TOG's nephew plays for him.

Tog's nephew is the career leading tackler at our school, recently beating the record set by Tog's other nephew from the same family. He is a man amongst boys this year defensively, with exaclty 1 missed tackle all year, and he was tripped up by one of his own guys on the play or he would not have missed that one. Not bad for 6'0 200 lbs. I know I am glad he is on MY team.

and as far as drinking the kool aid and not liking it, good for you. this offense does not suit everyone, just those of us who are good enough coaches to make it work, and who enjoy beating people up running off tackle. dmps what do you run? if i recall you are a veer guy right? (seem to recall that anyway). GREAT offense, the one i was a back in in HS. it's not about the offense anyway, it is about the execution of the offense. every offense is good when executed properly, just this one suits my personality.

superpower if (I should say when) we win tonight, we will probably be playing Phillipsburg.. I would like to talk to you about them ...

coachank - P-burg is a big, fast, talented team, but they don't like to mix it up. We fumbled three times in scoring position and lost two of them (The other one killed our opening drive.), and we didn't punch it in on 4th and goal from the 3 with about 30 seconds to go in the game. I will be happy to share what I have with you, and good luck tonight.

Started off the season switching to a non-DW kool-aid. After sucking for many weeks, I broke out the old brew for the end of the year.....we still sucked

i think you really need to be a special person to be a dwer. it is not for me but for some it is the savior. if your school needs it to win then by all means run the thing.
it is just not for me. to me if the ball was meant to be run it would look like rugby ball. the football we use is meant to be thrown. look at the areodynamics of the football and you can see it is clearly meant to be thrown. just my two cents.

Well contrary to popular belief, the DW teams can throw the ball too, we just like to stick it down your throat and make you like it and then put a little icing on the cake with a few passes to appease those who like to see the ball thrown a time or two!

most of the time when you see a dw team throw it reminds me of duck hunting season. then i realize it is a football in the air.
the majority of dwer's i know do not want to throw the ball unless it is a gimmie for fear of losing a down on a incomplete pass. the whole theory of the dw is 4 downs to get 10 yds.
what I also find interesting is how defensive dwer's get if you are not a kool aid drinker.

Well I am actually lucky enough to have 3 TE that can catch the ball well (they are all pretty fast and have hands of glue!!), 2 mobile qb's 4-5 excellent wbacks, A fb that is tough as nails and a decent sized offensive line, oh I am playing in a semi-pro league though so that might help!!

Have not seen very much of the DW around here to know enough about it, but our conf. champ this year used some concepts of the DW in their shortyardage and goalline packages this fall and did an outstanding job with the use of misdirection and counters out of it.

Really, what is the DW anyway, is a it an offense soly run from a DW formation with tight splits, or sometimes maybe both wings on the same side or a sniffer variation? I think it more about attitude and the philosophy of running downhill with as many lead blockers as possible. Given that criteria, "DW" could be run from any formation up to and including empty gun....in fact, many concepts that the DW borrows from other systems such as trap, GT pull, multiple double teams, etc. are easily applied out of other formations, I think its the "mentality & attitude" that makes the DW, not the blocking schemes or formation, nothing special or even remotely new or revolutionary in either of those areas. Heck, I can (and do on occasion...lol) line up in a DW formation and run stuff that would make a true "DW" guy cringe.

Recovering DW Kool-Aide addict in North Dakota. There are two schools in the state that I know of that run the Double-Wing: Wahpeton and Langdon.

"But hey that DW stuff doesnt work LOL."
I wish it didn't work so well for everyone. I liked it more when it was unique and hardly anyone saw it. However, it is great to be part of the Kool-Aide fraternity.

I feel the same as superpower.. there are getting to be more and more dw teams in this area... but it is great to be a part of the fraternity
by the way on the passing scene, the other night in the playoffs our qb went 5-8 for 153 yards and 2 TD's, (his only interceptiosn was the last play of the first half on a spread formation trick play... so that ALMOST doesn't count....too bad it still does) 67 yard td, 45 yard td.
