Just wanted to see if anyone has some insight on putting together a quality welcome letter for your media guide?
I am going into my third year as HC and we haven't had a lot of success in the W/L column but the program is developing in a positive direction. We feel really good about this team, and the juniors who have known only OUR PROGRAM for the last two years. They are a special group and have bought into the process of coming together and being accountable to one another, gaining small victories, 1 day at a time- gradually improving and naturally rising the expectations among themselves through their hard work and dedication.
Like everyone, our parents perspectives are wide ranging- from people who know football supporting the tenets of what we are doing, to the NFL viewer who thinks I should be fired for only winning 1 game.
Just trying to find the perfect words to set the season off on the right foot.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

How is a Media Guide going to help you with parents? WE GETTING SCHOLLYS! 7-7 CHAMPS FOR LIFE! But in all seriousness, the one I write talks about academics, life lessons through perseverance and attention to detail and using the game as an avenue to harvest lifelong relationships.

We're talking about two different things.
A Media Guide is to provide basic facts (schedule, roster, records) about your program for the Media - newspapers, radio-TV.
If you provide written material about program for parents - philosophy, calendar, expectations, etc. - that's different.

I guess you could call it more of a "gameday program" - with head shots, team photos of all levels, cheerleaders, coach bios, AD & principal messages ... and head coach welcome letter. I provide a player/parent expectation manual at the beginning of the summer that covers calendar, philosophy, rules/expectations, etc. Last year we didn't produce the program (for various reasons... most importantly it ended up being a loss for us in printing cost because no one wanted to paye the $2 we were charging to make up the cost - and we ended up with a bunch of programs laying around) and we caught a lot of flak from some of the parents who were disappointed at not having the keepsake, I suppose. This year I have contracted out with a marketing company and they are paying us to put our program together and splatter it with their national advertisers.. it's a good deal and a professional looking product. We will give it out for free. We are in a small town and we have open enrollment between 3 high schools so we are fighting for attention from future ball players/families. I had a welcome letter in our program in my first year.. I really just wanted to see what others on this board were putting out there... make sure I put together a quality deal that will help to leave an impression on kids (future prospects) at our games and something parents would want to save. Just marketing and branding, I suppose... of course, winning some games will help too! Thanks for the feedback...
