Lock it up, this thread is toast!
And to think I was hoping to have a continuing discussion on cut blocks!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha @grad17 you are clearly the most talented troll to ever type on the huey boards. I think you even beat murdr 's run of talking about going homeless, and then saying that men's pens are important status symbols. You have to be a troll, because the alternative is just too terrifying. For those that are newer to the board or who may ha e read through this quickly, the word truly was PENS. This guy said men's PENS were status symbols. Just don't want any unfortunate misreadings, haha.

In an effort to resume football discussion...I've been thinking back over the years where we've had a kid that got hurt cutting or where I saw it happen. I can't think of one that was hurt going against a team that actually practices cutting. It seems to me that when kids get hurt is when they can't block a guy and they are told to "just cut him" without actually knowing how or without practicing it. It seems to me that if we emphasized proper technique across the board (like with heads up tackling) that we would have an even safer game across the board. Thoughts?

Its the so called adults in the room who need to be held to account. If the coaching and management improved, our game would instantaneously improve internally. This is not about safety for those on the looking in and criticizing. Never will be.
How do you specifically recommend the "coaching and management" improve?
If you do not understand how the game is going to be impacted by "those on the looking in and criticizing," you have no credibility.
But, then again - as always, it is hard to understand what you are trying to say.

I think what everyone is trying to say in this thread...is that we are all ready for the season to start!
As an offensive line coach and former offensive lineman I love the cut block. I think it equalizes the line of scrimmage and keeps fat kids (I can say that because I am one and have one) part of the game. As defensive coordinators put more and more speed on the field many linemen are losing an edge. Maybe that's fair to balance the rules that favor the offense. But to me and many of the guys I coached being able to cut has made the game more about more than physical attributes. Cutting is a tool in the tool box. The cut block is the offensive line's version of a change up. A well timed cut block can really keep a defensive line off balance. Without the cut block increased speed may become a requirement for the position and slow guys like me will be forced to find a new endeavor.
That being said I don't have the answer to clips and chop blocks or consistency in officiating the aggregation of low blocks. I am interested to hear the proposals that all of you guys suggest.
And hopefully get a nice pen soon too!

You can't just "aim low" and have everything else stay the same and expect good and safe results.

I have said this for years about high school. Cut on snap only inside the box. Easier to see and enforce and probably safer. Does away with ball in box or not. Does away with under center or shotgun. Just simplier. That "Shotgun" thing seems to vary state to state. In Virginia they specifically told us that it didn't matter. I'm in VA and I've had some referees tell me that I could only cut if the QB was under center. Then I had a referee tell me the next week it didn't matter if it was under center or shotgun, it's illegal. The next week... so on and so forth. I think it really comes down to the head referee.
