I know I'm a little late to do it this season, but next season I am thinking about dividing the program into random groups and creating a competition where they try to earn "points". The winner gets shirts and BBQ (possible other incentives). I want to make an emphasis on how important "little" things are and that's how points are awarded.
Means by which groups can earn points -Attendance/tardiness to weight lifting and class -Grades -First in attendance lines for weight lifting -Improvement of core lifts and speed -Negative points for unexcused absences from school and lifting
I'm looking for other ways in which the kids and groups can earn or lose points. Any ideas?

I've seen coaches give points for guys that finish other sport seasons which I think is awesome. You COULD incorporate bonus points for sportsmanship (encouraging guys on their "team" or not), minus points for putting someone down (on their "team" or not).
You want someone to show up earlier, first 5 guys earn a bonus point for their team. Can do this with any of the "little" things you want to improve, just don't go so crazy with bonus points that it makes the regular points invalid.

You can give individual kids a question daily that give kids the opportunity to gain or lose points. Ex.: “How many brothers/sisters does Joe have?” “Give an example of one teammate has made the team better in the last week” It creates open lines of communication between teammates and allows them to get to know each other in a way they wouldn’t otherwise.

You can also give extra points for any type of community service. Examples of things we had happen in one week just for points: cleaned the cafeteria after lunch, swept the hallways for the janitors, washed teacher’s cars for free, cleaned the entire field house. It was astonishing.
