We are moving into a small school that is purchasing all new equipment for their weight room.
The room is rather small so it is obvious that we need to get rid of much of the old equipment...bars & weights included.
Any suggestions regarding a fair and reasonable way to market the old Weight Lifting equipment?

This is just my opinion but I'd never get rid of bars and plates that are still useful. They don't really take up that much space.

Many of the companies that sell weight equipment will buy it from you---you're not going to get a lot for it usually. Did they ask about trading it in to the company that's installing the new stuff?

We are you located? I'm looking to buy a squat rack, an adjustable bench, a bar and some weights for my basement.

Giving/selling it to the middle school seems like a great suggestion.

Any suggestions regarding a fair and reasonable way to market the old Weight Lifting equipment? Are you looking to get rid of it or are you trying to make a couple bucks? If you are looking to just get rid of it, I would suggest getting the word out that the equipment is free. First come, first served. If you want to make a couple bucks, I would suggest asking people to make you an offer. Or, hold an "open house" and run it like a garage sale. I would not get rid of any weights. Keep them. You can always use more weight. The bars...I would not be opposed to unloading them them if they are badly bent or are cheap bars (shoulder bolts, for example).

I know most places make you list it on some local gov site to make sure no shady biz is going on where you are giving it to a buddy or something.

Addendum to my original post...
I met with our Administration today, and we have located space within the School District where we will be able store our old weight room equipment. Thus we will not be required to make any hasty decisions regarding what we will do with it.
Thanks to all of you for sharing your thoughts and providing suggestions...this is a GREAT website!!!
