Today this kid totally freaked out started off by having him not be able to squat the amount he usually can then. Go off the deep end walks in the over part of the weight room talks to some little kid, I ask him whats wrong he looks at me, then shoves me(I think he is kidding) shoves me again, tells me we are going to wrestle and that he is going to kick my ass, comes after me so I push pull him he is on the ground gets, comes after me again and I throw him down again he gets up, I ask him if he is ok and what is wrong he gets up starts crying like a 5 year old, starts to run outside so I follow him ask him whats wrong and he gets in his car and leaves??? Funny thing is this kid started for me as a freshman and is a stud??? I told him I was going to call him but he hasn't answered his phone? What should I do? Weirdest thing I have ever seen???

Call the cops. Sounds like a possible suicide for some reason.

Do you think he has a substance problem?

You need to talk to him soonest and find up what's up. A substance problem is possible but it could be that he has some personal stuff going on. Have one on one without being too stern. If you don't get anything there bring the parents in.

I would also talk to a school counselor and have them available. Get people involved.

You might want to stop by the house and meet with the family. Make sure that everyone is hearing the same thing. If he will not talk to you because he is afraid of a rule violations you might want to seek some outside help.

All the above suggestions are good but you also need to contact your principal immediately and let him know what happened. Write down your account and present it to him. Also record names of any witnesses. Protect yourself!

Write down everything that happened. Get kids that were in the room to verify it. (sign it also if they will) Contact the police, principal and the family and see if they have noticed mood swings. Sounds an awful lot like roid rage to me, however, If I were in your position I wouldn't start with that. He may have a medical issue or some sort of a chemical imbalance or just some personal issues that he's dealing with at home.
Good luck with this Coach.
